Reliability and Price Questions
Reliability and Price Questions
Hey guys/gals. I’ve been browsing some G35 forums for a while trying to learn about the G as I planned to buy one this summer, however… a friend of my cousins is selling his G35 soon, and I’d like to know if it’s a good deal.
It’s a 2003 G35 w/Aero package and Navi. Metallic in color w/black leather. It’s got 67K miles, and he’s asking $20K for it. It’s what he owes.
Is this a good deal? Bad deal? Better deals out there? At this time I have an 04’ TL and an 06 Colorado, however my mother drivers the TL because her car broke down. I’d like to replace the TL with something a little more sporty, but still luxury, and not pay too much.
Is the mileage too high for the price, or too high for the car? How are these when they get to high mileage? Prone to problems or should they run through 120,000 miles strong?
I’d probably plan to keep the car 3 to 6 years. (For me this is a long time). I’m the kind of person that gets bored with things quick, and likes to changes vehicle every 1 to 2 years.
Also, since I'm pretty new to Infinities and wanted to know how they perform in the long haul. Is it safe to buy an 03' (with no problems so far) with 67K miles on it? Will it last to 100,000 miles with minor/no issues? How about after that? Does anyone have any experience with this? Any responses are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any responses, and sorry for the long post.

The 03 was the first year of production, with this there was a few issues, if you search you can find plenty on this site, also an 03 yet with 67k miles there is no Warranty and you are still paying around the 20's.
My suggestion would be to search a little bit more and you will come up on better deals especially with the demand on the g37's, and I would recommend you the 04 which most people will agree that was one of the best years for the g35.
The Infiniti's are pretty reliable, most ppl on here bitch and moan about things that really is not that serious, but you know how that goes. I would also stay away from the 05+ G's because of the fantastic idea nissan had with trying to tweak the motor which led to many oil cosumption problems.
Do your research and you wont be sorry with your final result.

I guess my major concern is trans and anything else that could be costly to fix. I've seen a couple 03's in the area, with mileage around 60K going for $20K (these were non-Navi and this one has Nav). I offered the guy $18K so we'll see what he says. It's not a final offer, I just wanted to know where he stands on price. So I THINK the price is OK. Am I right in that thought?
Should I be worried about that trans going out, or anything else that would cost a lot to fix?

18k sounds about right, if the car is as clean as you say. Also find out which dealership is was purchased from and see what kind of things the customer has taking her in for, that will say a lot.
basically run a vin number on carfax also call the dealership and ask for the history of the car.
If it comes to it just ask to take it to a dealership and have it inspected, they might charge you around an hour or so in labor to check her up make sure compression and leak test clears and etc.

I got my 03 sedan with Navi and 72k miles for $15k. Sticker price was $16k at the dealer.
I think you can do better.
