Want to get a G but have some questions...

Hi,
I am new to the G world. I want to upgrade from my 02 Sentra to an 06 G35. I have a few questions that would be great if they are answered:

1- How reliable is the car? i will be using it to commute to school and to go out.

2- How real is the estimated MPG? I will be driving mostly highway.

3- How expensive is it to maintain the car? part costs?

I have looked through the forum and i've seen how the 05-06 car is more troublesome regarding the oil consumption because of the new engine. I am also thinking about getting the 6MT, so it looks like this one, with the new engine combination, is worse.

4- I have also seen the clicking axle problem in earlier years, does this also happen in the newer years?

Thanks for all the help in advance. I will take your answers in consideration when i am looking for a G. Also, be true about it, there's nothing bad in pointing out any bad things about the car.DOMO

1.Infinitis are reliable cars as long as you get all your maintenance done.
2.I think G35's are 18city/25highway im guessing....
3.Infiniti parts are a bit expensive depending on what your getting fixed..but since ure looking at an 06G35 you have warranty so i wouldnt worry about it much
4.I have that axle clicking problem on my 04G35 coupe...but since im out of warranty..im out of luck..haha..

i hope this helps a little bit..and hope in the near future you make a thread on your NEW G35..lol

I would go with the 05, the differeces are very minor unless your looking for some of the warranty left.

1- Very reliable.

2- slightly worse than estimates, especially if you drive fast.

3- when things break, they are more expensive than normal. Especially high performance parts, like tires and brake pads.

4- Idk

HAHA thats funny.

So far parts are not very cheap (brake pads and tires)
MPG is ugh not the same as a four banger thats for sure.
And I have owned my G for only one month so far so can't say much but it seems pretty reliable so far, except the gas(keeping in mind the gas prices).

I found a good deal on a 06 G35 and i kinda want to take it. Gas prices here in the SF bay area are crazy. Almost 5 bucks a gallon. My other option would be to buy a civic si sedan when looking at the gas prices.

1. Mine has been flawless in terms of reliability.
2. Fuel economy is nightmarish, I can think of many cars that are faster, roomier and use less gas.
3. My tires are bald now, so I'm paying an arm to replace them because they're 19". Pads are gone, rotors need to be replaced or resurfaced, so that's like.. a kidney.
IMO, owning a nice car as a daily doesn't make sense, but then again your usage of it may vary. I have a long commute in rush hour and only really get to enjoy my car on the weekends, which makes me think that I only really need a nice car as a toy. I will be changing cars as soon as I have some more cash saved up, but that's because I'm going in a different direction (crappy daily, baller weekend car). If you are looking for a daily though, I cannot think of a nicer one than the G in this price range. The only other that comes to mind is the E46 M3, but reliability, insurance costs and maintenance costs make it a worse car, imo.

If cost is a major factor, in terms of gas and reliability, I'd get something else. Don't buy into too much car. You might be faced with a tough decision later on because of it.

However if you can afford it, get one. You'll love it.
