rusted lower control arm bolt busted off...need diagram

Hey guys...the epic continues

2005 g35 coupe...so the passenger side Lower control arm bolt snapped off due to rust...i need to find a digram to figure out how the bolt is attached to the frame...if it is welded, screwed in from the top, ect.

can anyone help?

the lower control arm basically is shaped like an "A" the top connects to the wheel, the left part of the lower stick connects towards the front on the body via a stud and two nuts..the stuff slides in horizontally and can easily be replaced... BUT the right part of the lower stick connects close by towards the rear but is a vertical stud that APPEARS to be welded into the frame...this stud is what snapped in half

What im trying to do is figure out the best method for replacing it..and i will have to know how it is designed at the manufacuture before i can start welding...

Shouldn't that be a warranty repair?

nope...dealer told me not to even bother

1.) Rust is only covered on body panels(hood, door, ect)
2.) Rust of anything else is considered Wear/Tear/Environmental damager and is not a defect
3.) The bolt is a suspension part...no suspension parts are warrantied.
4.) the car is near the east coast and voids all rust warranty.

Rust? I thought the suspension parts are aluminum? Corrosion perhaps?

And you are good enough with a welder to weld aluminum that is a structural part?

Are we talking about the front or rear? I still can't picture which part you're referring to.

its the passenger side, front control arm. there are 3 bolts...one by the wheel, and one on each arm of the control arm. One of the arms is a bolt with nut and is mounted up horizontally.(it is closer to the front) The 2nd is closer to the rear (by read i mean its 1ft towards the rear from the other control arm) and mounts vertically but is held in by a 17MM PIN that welded to the frame..and it is this PIN that is broke in half

see link part 11...and NUT #155

http://www.350z-tech.com/w/images/th...ension_001.jpg

here is the broken in half 17MM pin(aka bolt)

so basically from bottom down you have----FRAME w/ 17MM PIN, then slides in the control arm PART 11, then slide on PART 21 which is the Front cross bar, then you screw on NUT #155.

so i have two solutions

1.) The 17MM pin(aka bolt) that is attached to the frame has a taper...i am going to cut off the taper to the largest diameter of the PIN and then tap the a BOLT HOle that will screw into that PIN. This will provided the quickest method until I can do the next step

2.) as you see in the picture...that 17MM PIN in welded into a squarish rectangular panel..then this is spot welded to the frame...I should be able to cut off the spot welds and that whole piece with 17MM pin should drop. Then I can either call infiniti and see if they can order this piece(which they should and they are looking into it) or remove the old broken 17MM pin and find a new replacement at a hardware store...weld it in, then weld up the squarish panel again....

what do you guys think? not much else I can do...

the thing is that the load on that bolt is horizontal and wont be vertical, so basically it doesnt truely relay on the bolt to hold it up in the vertical sense...only loads the bolt will see are horizontal.

and the conclusion..for anyone reading the thread...

so i was able to cut off the taper and re-tap it to a 12MM thread.

works like a charm..

see picture of hole and of the re-threader...
