dealer wants VIN to give me a quote on part

I just called Englewood Infiniti, and dude in the parts department wants me to give them the VIN number before they can give me the price of the BOSE tweeter. Is this really comon?

Second, after calling around, talking to a few different people, they said the price of a pair of BOSE tweeters would be around $97.

Does that sound right to you guys?

They can be more accurate quoting the right part for your car that way.

Ever go into a parts store and wait in line and hear

"Sir..is your truck 4WD or 2WD"

"Um...I don't know....."

It is indeed to insure that you are getting the correct part for your car, the VIN tells them all the factory equipment that you would have.

The dealer's parts department inputs the VIN into their computer so that it will only list the correct parts for your vehicle.

I wouldn't worry about giving a dealer a VIN. They're just making sure...
