Stealer Recommends BG-1 Fuel Inj. Srvc... need?

my local stealer keeps harping me about getting this BG-1 fuel injector cleaning service they offer for $130.

once in a while i use a bottle of Techron in the gas tank...

does anyone know what they do to clean the fuel injectors??

I used to get a kit that had fuel injector cleaner, a cleaner that you hook to a vacuum line that goes and cleans carbon deposits off cylinder heads and a spray cleaner to clean out the throttle body. You can do it yourself if you really wanted to do that. Dealer is insane and it also won't do much if your car has low miles.

You can probably get a local shop to do more for cheaper.

be careful. I was in the dealership and this dude was getting his M45 serviced... he got a fuel injection service at a "shop" and it cost him 950 in repairs.

yeah i've been reading more online, it seems modern cars using regular gasoline here in the US shouldn't need this service until maybe 150,000 miles. i was also reading about seafoam, but i couldn't bring myself to put anything in my oil and intake manifold.

The BG-1 system is a little different than just a tank additive. The $130 service is probably the 3 can deal (there is a 7 can) which consists of a fuel tank additive, intake cleaner, and a fuel injector and fuel rail cleaner. The intake and fuel injector cleaners are put through under pressure so it does a better job than just an additive that goes in the tank. I work at a dealer and just went back and asked a couple of our techs what they thought of it and they both agreed it works very well. They said if you have a higher mileage car with deposits or buildup the BG-1 system does a better job than Techron, but if you don't have the buildup then you won't see much difference. It wouldn't hurt to do it but the benefit depends on how much junk is in the fuel system.

Question is how did they determined you needed it? They look at the injector duty cycles? Scope the combustion chambers though the plug hole?

From page 9-4 of my owners manual:
Aftermarket fuel additives
INFINITI does not recommend the use of any
aftermarket fuel additives (i.e. fuel injector
cleaner, octane booster, intake valve deposit
removers, etc.) which are sold commercially.
Many of these additives intended for gum,
varnish or deposit removal may contain active
solvent or similar ingredients that can be harmful
to the fuel system and engine.

I think those "services" are sources of HUGE dealer profit. my 2 ¢

i've filled up on 91 octane chevron and shell ever since i got the car so i'm pretty sure the injectors and lines should be clean. the price is pretty steep.

I run a can of BG K44 every 20k miles. The local dealer by my work does the same thing for their "basic" fuel system clean.
