Hit a Possum

So i was driving home last night on a country road and hit a Possum at 65. Luckily there was no real damage to the bumper, but I noticed some loose pieces back behind the bumper. I pulled out a loose plastic bracket and a piece of hard foam material. Do these serve any particular purpose...should I try to replace them?

Actually, he met me back at my house a few hours later so we could trade insurance information...I think he felt really bad about the whole thing.

that foam is probably the bumper cover support. it serves as a cushion.

I think that it is the support foam also. It is funny that pieces of that broke off but the bumper is fine.
