Why does my car sound like a paper shredder?

What the ef gives?

I never really noticed anything, but I was parking my car in my garage last night and I happen to have the radio off.

As I was finishing my text message I couldn't help but notice that my car sounds like I'm getting a piece of paper and just crumbling it...

Then I pressed the clutch in and it was gone.

Wtf gives?

I turned it off and it sounded like I was turning off a VW Bus.

A friend of mine is a tech at Nissan and he told me the Zs and Gs are just supposed to sound like this? Seriously an Infiniti is supposed to sound like this?

I don't know about a paper cutter, but yes, our clutches and flywheels tend to make a grinding noise when not engaged. Annoying, but you'll eventually get used to it. There has been plenty posted on these forums about flywheel chatter.

The noise is most commonly described as a cement mixer when pertaining to the flywheel chatter. Is that kinda what you hear?

If I buy another fly wheel, will it go away?

The noise might be worse with a different flywheel.

performance parts tend to be noisy, even as OEM.

you will always have a little bit of chatter when sitting there like that. its fine.

go sit in someones car that has a super light fly wheel and let me know if you think your car is bad.

thats why i went with an 18lb instead of 12 or whatever they are

Snap....Crackle....Pop that's my throwout bearing....=(

JVB says nothing about having a lightened flywheel and I've had the noise he describes with every MT car I've ever owned. Throwout bearings make all kinds of noises when they get a few miles on them and it only goes away when you engage the clutch. Throwout bearings rarely fail but they do contribute to interior noise....

The first car I ever got was a 2004 Honda Accord 6 speed, never did I ever hear that car make such a noise.

I've driven a few other manual transmission cars and didn't really hear the noises I've been hearing.

Its no big deal though. If you guys say its normal, then by jolly its normal.

I just freak out about the car at every little sound I hear. This is my first used car, so...I panic.

hahah^^ agrreed. ACT said that its more of a harmonic vibration coming from the flywheel and that with a heavy stock flywheel 22lbs or whatever its not noticable. my ACT one is loud and noisy as hell 16.9lb flywheel.... i know theres nothing wrong with it but its really embarrassing driving by people. Because everyone thinks your car is all ****ed up or a POS.
