castrol syntec is the report of the left and mobil is the report on the right

the syntec was run for 5200 miles and the mobil 1 only 3750.

i don't think i'll ever be using m1 again.

wish someone could do the comparisons with the AMSOIL synthetic oil too......AMSOIL's claim of 12000 miles without an oil change has always sounded too good to be true .....

Wish some stats could throw light and prove me wrong.........

The Mobil 1 guys must be pissed. They have been pushing for M1 and saying it's the best Motor Oil for the G (over the counter oil)...

most synthetics can last 12~15k.

Sure it can 'last', but is it safe? I mean all the crap that is collected from the motor... Oil help removes impurities from the motor. After a certain thousand miles, I don't care how long oil "last". It's stops providing protection when all that crap is collected and moving about the system.

When oil "looks" dirty, that means it's doing it's job (removing impurities from the motor and providing lube...

Get dino or synthetic blend and Change it every 3700..

12k on the same filter? If it's an OEM filter, I bet the cardboard has deteriorated and bits and pieces is flowing all over the place. If not, its probably clogged up by now and restricting oil flow.

Ever tried changing the filter w/o changing the oil? lol PITA.. I mean, if you're going to do all that, might as well change the oil too.

I believe the engine block features a check valve that prevents the oil from draining when you take the filter off.

The oil's job is to keep harmful particles suspended so it doesn't hurt the motor. Big particles are taken out by the filter.

If you keep oil's TBN number up and do a filter change, you can run SOME synthetics for a long time.

enter long haul diesel trucks here.

Exactly, it doesn't leak much at all. I was running Amsoil synth on an extended drain interval and changed the filter halfway through. Unfortunately my cheap, lazy azz didn't get a UOA.

On my350z pennzoil platinum did really well on the non-revup engines. I would be curious to see the comparison between pennzoil platinum and castrol synthec.

can someone explain to me why you would want German castrol??

I think some people buy into marketing to much.

My dad had a 92 chevy truck and only used the cheap oil. Im talking back when it was like $6.99 for a filter and oil cheap. That truck had 225,xxx miles when it was sold and never had a problem at all. I dont even know the name of the oils, but I know he didnt pay to much or use synthetics. No leaks, no problems, the truck is still working today.
He just changed the oil every 5K on dino juice.

I use both back and forth (castrol/mobil1) which ever is on sale with a filter at the time.

They shouldn't really be pissed....

More like embarrassed now that it has been shown they didn't have a clue what they were talking about all along.

I'm glad this forum is getting more educated on the whole Mobil 1 issue. Simply put, it's really not that good of an oil, and no way in hell is it worth the price you pay for it.

10-15 years ago things were different. These days, it's nothing special. Might as well use whatever you can find for $2/qt. at Wal Mart instead of using Mobil 1.

My reasoning for it comes only from the UOA's that I have had done for my cars and the others that I have seen done as well.

GC > Regular Castrol Synth > M1

Every time.

You just can't argue with the numbers.
