if you have ANY detonation still, i would highly recommend bumping that up to 93oct

i only use top tier gas of the 91 octane type. chevron is close to me so thats what ive been using. why do i only use 91? because that is exactly what our cars are tuned for. if you are putting in too high of octane, you are wasting money and possibly hurting performance because the gas is not igniting when its supposed to. if you use lower than 91, you are possibly hurting your engine and/or losing performance

True, 91 or higher.

But, if you were to go to a pump and they had 91 and 93 octane there, there is no benefit in choosing the 93 octane over 91 for the G35 assuming it's a stock, well-maintained great running engine.

Like i said before, in my state, 91 octane is hard to find, so i gotta run 93. However out in Cali, they have 91 as their highest...but they aren't really missing out by not having 93 (again, stock unmodified, well-maintained car)

different octanes ignite at different temperatures, thats what the octane rating number stands for, the higher the rating, the higher the temp needed for it to burn. mustang has gone over this already. 91 is optimum, imo, even over 93 octane

I believe it also depends on what altitude you are at. Higher altitudes can get away with running lower octanes if I remember right.

how accurate are the gas station companies at getting the fuel at the right octane? what im asking is how much error is allowed? for example, if you want 91 octane, what are the tolerances? 90.75-91.25 or what?

Feels exactly the same my cars not really moded but I dont mind spending the 5 extra cents

Chevron, Shell, & 76 only...Why do stupid people risk problems in the long run all over a few cents/dollars?

Chevron & Shell. Might be a little more at times, but that in turn gives me piece of mind.

Didnt realize Texaco was so high in standards. Good thing there is plenty of cheveron's in my area and are the cheapest in the area.

Isnt Conoco phillips 76 all the same?

Shell, Exxon, Citgo, big chains only. 93 Octane only.

I'd never, ever buy fuel from a 7-11, grocery store or any of those types of places.

Yes, Conoco, Phillips 66, and 76 are all ConocoPhillips gas. They chose to keep the individual brands for name recognition purposes.

Post From Professional Auto Techs!

Servicing multiple types of vehicles daily...you can see the difference! Whenever possible, it's Chevron only for us (always purchase the highest octane possible).
FYI, Chevron is the ONLY gasoline the US.EPA has used for testing for the last 30 years. Why? It is of the highest quality and the most consistent fuel available.
PLEASE, we have had multiple drive ability/check engine light lights, and etc. related to poor quality cheap fuels, please don't do this to your G's, pay the extra 10 cents!

same here I know way too many people that cheap out on gas by going to Citgo, Costco, thortons, etc... and have had SEVERE fuel related problems. That 4 cents/gal they saved did absolutely nothing but cost them more in the end.
can u explain that 5% back on that card please? I always wanted to start putting gas on my card but never got into it, most people say pay cash
