My G35's oil consumption prob.
My experience with Miller Infiniti....so far. My G35's oil consumption prob.
Hello all!
Okay so my G ('05 Coupe w/50k miles almost out of factory warranty) has been one of the oil consumption victims.
It seems like it burns up about 1 quart every thousand to 1500 miles. I took it in to Miller Infiniti in Van Nuys this morning (good service by the way) for an oil change and an oil consumption test.
The oil consumption test is done when they mark the oil dip stick after the oil change is completed. I am not allowed to touch the dip stick for 1300 miles otherwise the mark they make on the stick gets removed and voids the test. When i'm getting close to 1300 miles i have to schedule a new appointment to bring it back so that they can measure up the oil consumption. If all goes well, they will have to open a case with Infiniti and eventually replace the block.
We'll see how it goes.

Dealers looking to deny you do that to prevent you from checking yourself so they can write down whatever readings they want and then top it off and you won't know how much it was really down.
Check it yourself and take your own readings before you go back and insist they do their check in your presence so you can see what it reads and what they note on the work order. If they give you any mess about the dipstick tell them to show you where it says that is part of the test on the tsb. They won't be able to cause it ain't there
Thanks for the advice. I will take your advice and make sure i'm present when they take a look at the dip stick readings. I know for a fact that it burns too much oil and it's a known issue with nissan/infiniti engines that it burns oil so i'll make sure they do what they're supposed to and resolve the issue.
Thanks, Jenna. I'm sure the dealer will do whatever it takes to get out of this one since my warranty is almost up. I do have extended warranty though but i'd prefer to get this taken care of through Infiniti and take advantage of the remaining warranty period.
I do all my oil changes myself so taking to the stealership today made me realize how expensive they really are! $75 for oil change w/ synthetic oil...and that's a discounted price!

Wow! I'll take 40 over 75 anyday! Where do you get your service done at?
You know what? They didn't even bother to ask who does my oil changes. They didn't ask too many questions so i'm not sure if that's a good thing. We'll see.

Yea.. theyre putting that off till they get done messing w you on the test. Lol
Once that backfires on them, they will use the oil changes as the next excuse.
I get mine done at Infinit of Peoria in Arizona. I hear everyone else pays big bucks. I've been going there for like 3 years though w both my 350z/G35 so maybe I get special pricing. Or maybe my advisor is still sucking up to me. Lol

There is nothing in the tsb requiring dealer oil change documentation either. There is a path for having records and a path for not and both lead to a new engine. Don't let them pull that crap either.
oil change prices? 5 qts of m1 0w40 at $7 a quart and one k&n oil filter at $15 results in a $50 oil change and that still involves me laying under there getting dirty and doing it myself

The stealership is already bs'ing me. They highly emphasized not pulling out the dip stick to check the oil level myself before bringing back after 1300 miles. As if there is some magic mark on the the stick the only initiniti techs can check. I'm thinking since Riverside Infiniti is okay doing service on cars with mods, I can have one of the techs from Riverside Infiniti call Miller Infiniti and tell them not to bs on my oil consumption test. I know they'll try to pull some bs about how the level is perfectly fine where it is supposed to be at 1300 miles or they'll just see how low the level is, top it off with some oil and then they'll show me the bs results.
I'll keep you posted.
Hey guys!
Here's a quick update. I'm very close to reaching the 1300 mile mark Miller Infiniti advised. I have already made my appointment to return to the dealer to complete the oil consumption test for this Wednesday at 7:30am.
I'm going to emphasize that I'll need i need to be present when their technician pulls the dip stick to measure the oil level.
Wish me luck!
