My '08 G35x S averages 16.5 mpg in combined city and highway driving. I admit that I seem to be unable to resist flooring it frequently. However, my lease is coming to an end and my Infiniti dealer contacted me today offering to get me into an '09 G37x S. I've read that the mileage is better due to the 7-speed transmission. Has anyone with a new G experienced an improvement? The G37x loaner I had over xmas seemed to gulp much less gas, but I didn't have it long enough to properly assess whether this was the case or not. I realize that AWD is going to get poor mileage as compared to RWD, but I live in MI and AWD is a necessity.

I would say I kinda agree with the dealer on that one. I had a G37X loaner for 3 days and it got wayyyy better gas milage compared to the G35X loaner I had received the first time I had a loaner. That's just my experiance and I would say I was flooring it frequently as you say.
i averaged 19.5 MPG on the G37X.

^ yeah newer cars have better gas milage

i guess infiniti finally realized that the MPG per gallon does affect the # of people that buy it substantially

AND the G37 has more HP and a slightly larger displacement. Probably weighs more or about the same. So yes, the G35 does have horrible gas mileage.

if you don't fill up your tank completely you won't have as much weight in your car which will give you better gas mileage

I can't complain...my other car gets like 13MPG on a good day.
It costs about one dollar (American) just to start up my old 69 Mustang.. then I hear the (Po-ta-to po-ta-to po-tat-to) and then my tummy tingles.

the needle drops like a rock because your rompin on it, but if you chill out driving it goes back up, is yours like that?

cause ive noticed when i only have a bar or so of gas and romp on it the gas light comes on but after a few minutes of normal driving it goes back up

Well I feel better now about the milage of my 06x - got 20mpg on the first tank, about 90% highway at 70mph. I suppose I could do alot better if I never got on the throttle, but then why own a G?

For those suddenly getting much worse numbers than normal - do you smell gas outside the car at all? If so have the car checked for a leak.

I'm going to hold on to my 94 Honda del sol Si 5sp just in case gas spikes again. I can get 40mpg in that thing if I hypermile (never over 60mph, kill engine at stoplights, accelerate like a turtle in a tar pit).

I didn't buy this G35 for it's gas mileage or any of my previous cars, I buy my cars because I enjoy how they look, drive and sound! Isn't that true with most of us?

My gas light has come on and indicated I had 31 miles to go before I would run out of gas. Within a minute or two it would drop to 15, and then 0, but I've never stalled out from a lack of sufficient fuel. I'm therefore not sure how accurate this gauge is in terms of how much gas I have remaining. The general rule with the G is keeping it 65mph or under on cruise control to get the best possible mileage on the highway. But in city driving I find it nearly impossible to control my acceleration - the car is a beast and just wants to GO. It's too much fun to become annoyed by because it handles so well, unlike my '04 TL that launched impressively but had really bad torque steer.
