do a seafoam (vac line, fuel tank, crank case)
change filters and fluids
change spark plugs
shift under or at 2k RPM

try using Mobil 1 fuel economy oil also, it's a bit thinner and if you don't overload your engine you should be fine.

by any chance does anyone know how many gallons we have left when the empty light comes up?
very simple to check.

Tank 20 gal.

as soon as your light goes on go to the gas station and fuel up and see how many gallons you still had in there.

Mine goes on with 5 gal still in the tank.

In my regular driving (mixed highway and stop & go on the way to work), I usually get right around 300 miles per tank (I try to fill up just before the gas light comes on). Last tank was 21mpg and the one before was 20mpg.

I have an 05 G35X and I consistently get 21mpg city and 26mpg highway. But then again, after that accident in my 04 Maxima, I learned to slow the heck down.

And I did a test with that low fuel light. For 3 tanks in a row when it came on, I stopped immediately and filled up. Each time I had 5 gallons left.

I always try to fill up right before or as the gas light turns on. When I fill up its usually around 14-14.5 gallons. Right now I am at 315 or so miles and still above 1/4 tank.

Just drove from Portland to Bend over the weekend. Left on a full tank. When I got back I had driven a total of 468 miles on the tank and still had a little less than a fourth of a tank left. This car is great if you stick to the highway lol.

City driving: 15mpg

40/60 (city/hwy): 17-19 mpg

Under normal driving conditions. Don't pay attention to people getting 400+. They're driving on the HWY and are trying their best to get 400+ out of a tank. Under normal driving conditions, meaning regular driving, not trying to get the best mpg in the world to post on the forum to gloat about it. The G will get 15-19mpg.
