my g35 lotus elise... exige

Here's a good write up, 3050 lbs is what this guy ended up with without getting crazy, still a few hundred pounds to shed if you wanted to replace the dash, strip the interior and get rid of the A/C, heh. http://www.6mt.net/forum/racing/1559...g35-coupe.html
at 3050lbs your looking at a power to weight that is about the same as a N/A Elise.

HwyDrftr, I agree that it's definitely possible to build a G to keep up with an Elise, but the absolute limit of a <2000lb car with a low polar moment of inertia due to mid-engine is quite a bit higher than a 3500lb nose heavy car. A better G driver can certainly take a slightly less experienced Elise driver on the track, but skill being equal, the Elise is going to be faster. A couple of weeks ago, I was driving my Elise on the track, and I got totally schooled by a guy driving a 2004 G, but he was using slicks, I had comp tires, and he was a more experienced driver.

Infinitisport, before you start cutting weight out of the car, get the other parts that are making the car slow fixed first. You would be surprised how well you can do with some dedicated track wheels with R compound slicks, a good suspension, and good brakes. Once you've made those changes, the best money spent is actually driving the car and mastering your skills to keep it at the limit. Only once the car starts to hold you back, does it make sense to start ripping it apart into a race car.

for wheels and tires i have volk 19 with sumitomo summer ultra high performance - excellent investment - can't agree more...
but the suspension and other stuff is complicated so i don't do them hence that's why i just wanna demod rather than modding it...
it's the same thing and better... imagine riding a motorcyle... light and very responsive despite small horsepower... so that's what the elise is all about... can't do that with 3000lbs tho

sharif from forged stripped down a new 370 z and without anything in the interior i think it was down in teh 2800's. So you need to add seats, dash, gauges......driveable and not a metal chassis you are probably not going to sit under 3000lbs. That is also removing all the comfort items so the car will look unfinished and will not be comfortable. engine size and body dimensions are vastly different from an elise which is why we have the weight.

dead weight aka NVH - dampers???
saw this on some review about dead weight - could not find it on my coupe???
anybody???
here's the review partial exerp:
Closer inspection proved this something was visible from both sides. In this detail shot you can see exactly what I'm talking about: dead weight -- about 1.4 pounds (22.16 ounces) of it per side. Bolted to both of the G35's mufflers is the below weight:
attachment below
ps - the rear seats is somewhere between 10-40lbs, depend on who's weighing it????

look, a 2 seater Z is barely getting down to 3k lbs so you can remove all the seats you want, it still won't get lower than that.
and that "dead weight" attached to the exhaust has already been removed on those cars since they use lighter aftermarket exhaust systems. Trust me, the racing built stripped cars are done by people that know every last lb they can pull off.
