Who is still using premium gas.
So yesterday my local newspaper had an article called "Stop the ethanol scam." http://www.roanoke.com/editorials/commentary/wb/280463
Some of the things mentioned in this article is how you can lose up to 4 mpg with 10% ethanol. Also the oil companies get .45 per gallon for mixing ethanol into our fuel supply, on top of that the oil companies jack prices for ethanol is more expensive. They are in a win win situation here. Then there was another article talking about the cost of cotton going from an average of .60 per pound over the last decade to $2.33 per pound. There is a cotton shortage and the largest american cotton producer (Texas) is giving up some of the cotton land to grow corn and soy beans for production of ethanol. WTF? Now we should also expect to see at least a 10% price increase in all things cotton. WOW the government sure does know how to make us more poor and get themselves rich.

Anyway, the oil companies are not the ones who started the push to ethanol and most of them would actually prefer the mandates were never put into place. The primary benefeciaries are ethanol producers and those farmers who supply them with the feedstock.
I'm also curious to see some proof of oil companies receiving both the 45 cent per gallon subsidy and increasing prices on the E10 gasoline they sell to the market. I have no problem believing one or the other is in place to offset the cost of blending, but I'd have to see something more substantial than this article before I believed they were receiving both benefits simultaneously.
Other than that, I agree that corn ethanol is a waste of money and resources.
Exxon Mobil Corp. earned $9.25 billion in the last three months of 2010, its most profitable quarter since the record third quarter of 2008.
The largest publicly traded oil company said Monday that net income grew 53 percent in the fourth quarter as it produced more oil to take advantage of higher prices.
To me, that is all the proof I need. I mean how can gas prices go up when Exxon is making this much? On top of that Exxon made $45 million in PROFIT last year. The problem here lies within our government. I agree. It isn't the gas companies adding ethanol either, it is the government. It is almost as if they are trying ruin our cars, boats, small engines, and decrease our fuel economy. Hold on I thought I lived in the USA, not Communist USSR, or Hitler's Germany, but our government is doing the exact same things these two former powers did. In 1944 Hitler ordered the entire European supply of potatoes to go to the manufacturing of ethanol for the jet planes. People starved to death and died of malnutrition. But they flew their jets.
The only other thing is if oil companies do not get paid the .45 per gallon of ethanol mixed in, and the oil companies do not like to put ethanol in their fuel, then why do they put in there? There are 3 stores in Roanoke, VA that have ethanol free fuel. This obviously proves that the government is not forcing them to put it in fuel. So the only thing left to believe is they get .45 a gal and they get to make higher prices b/c of ethanol that they already received .45 for adding. Sometimes it just comes down to using the old noggin and common sense. These big companies nor the government are going to put it out there in print for the "citizens" (slaves) to get irate. Then we would march on government, kinda like French ppl do when they do not agree with their government. But the US government doesn't want us to like them either.

As to your other question, the Government mandates a certain number of gallons of ethanol be blended each year. So yes, they are forced to blend ethanol if they want to sell gasoline in the United States.
You should probably do some research on how the industry works before you tell others to use the noggin and common sense.
Haha, how do Exxon's profits prove that they are getting an ethanol subsidy and raising prices on ethanol blended gasoline? You do realize that oil companies do not set the price of gasoline or oil, correct? They also earn the vast majority of their profits from the upstream business (producing oil) not from downstream (refining, marketing, and transportation of gasoline). You should probably also do a little research on Exxon's profit margin and let us know how it compares to other industries.

The export trend puts a spotlight on the government support for ethanol that totalled $7.7bn in 2009, according to the International Energy Agency.
The US Congress will decide the fate of a 45 cent-per-gallon blender’s tax credit set to expire on December 31. Four Corn Belt senators last week said extending the credit was “crucial to reducing the nation’s dependence of foreign petroleum”.
Companies that blend US ethanol with petrol may claim the credit even if the fuel is shipped overseas. Blends of up to 90 per cent ethanol imported in Europe also enjoy customs duties that are €60-€70 lower than the €102 per cu m duty on purer “denatured” ethanol, says Christoph Berg, managing director at consultant F.O. Licht in Hamburg. The US ethanol trade data mask additional volumes hidden in petrol blends.
There is an article right out of financial times. Funny how everywhere you look they say they get .45 but you do not believe it? Are you one of those ppl with the bumper sticker that is a goofy pic of George Dubya that says miss me yet? If our country was not full of closed minded ppl like you then this country would still be number one. This is the problem, here. No one wants to stand up and sign petitions, march on congress, or fight for your rights. As Theodore Roosevelt & James Madison both told the people, if you do not fight for your rights the government will take them away. Why do you think they shot JFK? or had Princess Diana killed? All b/c they knew something and they were going to tell people. Comon, Harvey Oswald a KGB spy? hahaha, or the paparazi? hahaha Comon man, you have to see that these were covered up killings. The government has been killing ppl for years to keep secrets.
Actually I did do the research. That is why you are funny. I never said oil companies determine price. But it is obvious that someone in Congress is on Exxon's payroll. That person is also very obviously in charge or pretty high up when it comes to gas prices. There are more oil pumps and rigs popping up all over North Dakota, pumping oil from the largest known oil well in the world. It is around 5 times larger than the next sized oil reserve in Saudi Arabia.

Are you really calling me close minded? What exactly did I say that makes me close minded?
Also, give the conspiracy theories a rest. I know people like you and all you are going to do is tie a bunch of unrelated BS together to try and prove your point. Nothing I've said has anything to do with the government covering up or not covering up anything. Ethanol blending is the result of lobbyists pushing their agenda for personal gain. The oil industry is merely doing what they are mandated to do by the government.
How did you even bring the oil industry into this? I think ethanol producers are the ones you should be directing your blame at. Get rid of them and there will be no more ethanol based subsidies for anyone.
