Noobie needs help/advice

So i got my 1st G35 coupe last week. I drove 6 hours to get it because its a 2005 and only has 33,000 on it (actually rolled to 33k when i was test driving it). I drove it home to Columbia Missouri, from Chicago, and it was like living a dream i absolutely love the car on the way home about 30 minutes from my apartment i stopped at a car wash and washed it along with a light rinse down of the engine bay, I got it home and it sits all week in my apartment parking lot b/c i ride the bus to campus (saves miles ). So i got it home Monday night and it sat until Friday afternoon when i headed to my permanent home about 45 minutes away. I got home and went to washing and detailing the car in and out. i was finally done and decided to head out for the night and show it off a little and when i left the garage i noticed my "check engine light" was on. I was like wth because this car has been driving like a dream and has shown no problems what so ever. It didnt come on during the 45 min drive home but after i got done detailing it, Maybe its a coinsidence but i dont know. So ive been reading up and ive been seeing people saying they do a "pedal reset" of the ECU and then the air idle reset the whole bit. So my question is should i try this reset and if so what order should i do them in. Like i said im new to the G and im trying to learn. So to wrap up my novel here, is it good to do the resets?, what will it help?, what should i do?, what would have caused the light to come on? Any opinions or advice would be great! Thanks!

yeah do a little searching there is a ton of info on this forum... but are you auto or manual?
have you been romping on it?

If you have someone that can get you the error code without charging you, do it so youll be sure its nothing major. Plus i think after you check the code it turns off so you wont have to do a reset.

in the future the pedal reset does work and iv heard myths about it being better for auto rather than manual bc it resets your ECU and it can "adapt" to your new style of driving so i can help on gas mileage... this is all hearsay of course. but i do know first hand the pedal reset combo will clear ur ECU. hope this helps a little.

I would check the obvious stuff first: oil, tranny fluid, brake fluid, etc. This stuff should come out immediately anyway after an initial purchase, at least I did it with mine. Then immediately Zaino'd!

When i got the car the dealer said all fluids had been checked, unfortunately he was a lying bastard and if it wasn't a 6 hour drive id prolly go back and drive the car up his *** because when i got home it was just below the "low" on the dipstick, and there was no windshield washer fluid (not that it matters he just said he checked ALL fluids). And i did get on it a little before i actually checked the oil but nothing made a bad sound and it wasnt deathly low. But i checked all fluids and changed the oil (i do that all myself anyways every 3k miles) but i like to do it as soon as i get a car so i know its been changed. I didnt check brake fluid or anything and the gas cap seems to be ok. Would the low oil cause it to go off? And now its changed and full.

If it is consuming oil its consuming it very slowly because i check it before i get into it every time now and its perfect every time. I guess Friday i will just get the codes read and we'll see what the problem is. I'll post it when i find something out. But i wouldnt think a car with only 33k would have problems :s

Well all I did was stop at the car wash and pop the hood and basically blew the dust off the engine bay for now more than 5 or 10 seconds. And I was sure to stay away from intake.

hmmm. disconnect the negative terminal of the battery, and reconnect it after a few minutes. see if it comes back.

You shorted something out from the "rinse" go to a parts store and find a tool to get the codes.

Rinsing ur engine is begging for trouble unless you know what your doing.
