Great photos looks like the wife has great taste in cars as well. My GF now owns my G and I love to watch her drive off in it. Makes me happy to see the car being used full time again, it hurt my heart to see it just sit at the house most of the time.
I've searched the DIYs and how-to's, but I have one remaining question regarding this. For the ball joint side of the compression rod, do I need to have a ball joint removal tool, or will this thing pop out easily on its own? That portion of the how-to's seems to always be glossed over. Any advice is appreciated.

You can't replace the ball joint on the compression rod. Best option is to buy new compression rods, then press in better bushings. Same issue with the upper control arm (a-arm).
The only ball joint you can replace is the one in the spindle/hub. That one is the one that connects to the forward lower control arm. A ball joint tool rental would be useful to press it in place.

Yeah I understand that. What I'm wondering is, do I need a ball joint removal tool to pop the ball joint out of the upright? Put another way, will the ball joint end of the comp. rod pop out with some hammering, or will I need a special tool?
