Thoughts about rebadging with 350gt

Some people think rebading there g35 as skyline 350gt is ricey or not true to the car, i want to know what your opinions are on this subject... is it "ricey" faking your car? OR is is being JDM to your car?

im not asking this for MY CAR im just asking the question in GENERAL

whoops -_- can this thread get moved to the exterior modifying section.

Your car in its US-spec build is a G35, not a Skyline 350GT (even if it shares 99% of the parts), so rebadging it to something it is not is like adding a TypeR badge to a non TypeR car. So yes it is "ricey" in my opinion.

What is so appealing about bading the car as a Skyline 350GT? It's not like it's a higher performance car. If you just want to be different, how about a Lexus or M3 badge?

I don't think it's "ricey" on one condition... that EVERYTHING has to be switched. Meaning ALL exterior emblems, tiny emblem in the clock, steering wheel, door sills, stitching in seats and mats including trunk mat... last but not least the engine cover if applicable.

It's not where I'd spend my money because it's not very important to me but if you like it then it's really up to.

Otherwise, yes I think it's ricey.

It's still just a G35 with some visual badging changed.

It's a little cheesy... Disco_Monkey's scenario is about the only I would consider OK... still wouldn't bother with it, but less fromage.

So, if I throw on some JDM clear corners, an Ings+1 body kit, and a set of 19" Works my car would no longer share 100% of the parts with a US-spec Infiniti G35. Would that make me a fraud for leaving the Infiniti emblems on?

I agree that it is somewhat "ricey" to swap emblems. I found a much better solution to remove the "G35" from the trunk lid - now the back is symmetric.

Hardly. You'd have to add GT-R emblems for this comparison to be accurate. With that said, a lot of thought should be given to putting a Skyline emblem on, as there are a lot of confused kids out there who don't know **** and will damage your G under the pretense that "It's not a Skyline". They seem to think that all Skylines are GT-Rs and forget that a GT-R is a lot less Skyline than a G35.

I often wonder what people would say if Holden marketed the Corvette under their own badge. Would it no longer be a Corvette? Likewise, if Nissan only had their upscale marque available in Japan and the G was sold over here as a Nissan whatever, how many people would be fast to claim it the more luxury brand?

When I was a kid, I had a black friend adopted by white parents. He was born in Africa but given his white parent's last name before they moved to the US. Because he was rebadged a Williams before entering the US, does that mean that he's not black? The only thing that changed was his name. I guess it depends on what people choose to see him as. To me, the original origin dictates the answer, not some miniscule detail such as a name change.

Unhappy

Oh geez....not this again....

Here is my take on it....

Everywhere else on the planet where the car is sold...it is a Skyline 350GT.

http://www.j-garage.com/nissan/skyline/v35/350gt.htm

For the US market, Nissan opened a new dealer line called Infiniti to give them an upscale image. There is NO Infiniti Motor Company.

Nissan re-badged the car to Infiniti G35.....if you want to put it back...it is your choice.

Why stop at a Skyline badge? How about a GMC badge while you're at it?

What's the draw? Is it "cool" to have a Skyline 350GT badge on your car or something? Why be wannabe JDM?

In my opinion, "Infiniti G35" sounds better than "Skyline."
Skyline sounds like an old Buick to me.

Personally I think it's ghey, but whatever floats your boat. IMHO you change it to 350GT, you might as well debadge the rest of the Infiniti lettering and logos.
