05AT shifts different than my 04AT? What gives?

I've only driven my 04AT Sedan. Today I had the wife take it in for the fuel valve problem and she called to tell me she just loves the way the 05 loaner drives. I asked what specifically she liked and she said it shifts better. I figured the 2 would drive the same. I realize I'm going off "girl talk" here but is there something to this?

The problem where you couldnt get a full tank of gas. It would make you look like an idiot at the gas station...

I have 04 AT and have driven 05 loaner twice... no notiable difference whatsoever. Could be 'cause mine is 04.5 - they did make some changes mid way through 04, but I'm not sure how much the TCU changed.

I just drove it for the first time (after hearing my wife's version of the differences). It does seem to shift smooth, which would lead me to think it shifts at a lower RPM. The brakes dont seem as touchy as mine, neither good or bad I guess. I like how the radio controls are lighted on the steering wheel. Definent differences but I'm still very satisfied with my/our 04, which we've only had since October. I'd love to have a coupe but with a kiddo, that's out.

They do electronically rev-matching in the 05+ 5AT, you will notice it especially when you downshift using MM

The thing I like best about post 04 is the padded leather (door) arm-rest... every time I drive an 05 I really wish my 04 had that! much more comfortable and less "cheap" looking/feeling the our plastic crap.

I had an 06 5AT loaner for 3 days. I hated that car. I didn't notice the "rev-matching" feature when downshifting; couldn't tell any difference between it and Cheryl's 04.5. When in MM, upshifting wasn't any quicker, so it still took way too long.

But I don't know if that car was representative of the 05/06 autos. I think the torque converter was messed up or something, because at 80mph the tach registered 3400rpms, much higher than Cheryl's car. And the steering feel was just dead, and although it was a bit torquey, it seemed to just give up beyond 4500rpms.

The rev matching is definitely there. You won't notice it much at lower rpms, but if you downshift like at 3k, you'll should definitely see the engine blip the throttle before selecting the lower gear. It weird though. I have noticed the downshift from 4th to 3rd has the best rev-matching but all other gears it kind of misses it and jerks the car a bit.

I would be VERY interested in this if someone knows.
I really dislike the upshift lag on my 06X, especially if you are not using MM. The downshift-rev-matching-attempt is curious. The upshift lag is outright annoying. The only time it upshifts fast if you are gunning it and just letting it run. If you want to ease up...well at say somewhere around the speed limit...it spins and waits until it decides to shift. The throttle-by-wire does not care you have let up.

I suspect that it is also the torque converter settings but that is outside my area of technical knowledge.
