Front wheel bearing replacement?

Has anyone ever replaced their front wheel bearings (hubs) due to noise, excessive play or other failure? Mine seem fine, but I'm wondering how many track sessions these guys will hold up to... My reason for asking is that I have a front wheel lug that is in need of replacement, so I figured I'd replace them all. But, if I'm going to replace all 10 front lugs, why not replace the front hubs? It'd be a whole lot easier, but much more $$$. Any advice would be much appreciated!

i would just replace the one stud by myself and just use the others until they actually break down.

(never broken a stud though).

Good advice. I just swapped out the one lug and I'll go with it for the time being. Looks like the G's wheel bearings are as well built as the rest of the car, even under track conditions... Thanks!

Bryce,
I have had BOTH sides replaced. Mine were likely track induced. One was the result of hitting a wicked pothole @ 75+

They are not too terribly expensive. The entire assembly, complete with new hub and studs can be had for ~$150 (per side).

Also refer to this thread here,

Thanks much for the advice! Sounds like it would be a good idea to swap out both fronts before next spring. I've noticed some front tire noise, but it may very well be bearing noise... Do the rears last longer than the fronts? I saw on the site you linked to that they sell the rear bearings as well, but the hubs have to be pressed into the bearings.

Perform the easy test I've described in the other thread to quickly determine if your bearings are bad. The rear appears to fair better. I've yet had to replace any of those, or heard of anyone needing to from tracking. *fingers crossed*

The fronts are sold as a full assembly so no packing necessary. The rears would require packing, somewhat of a pain in the *** if you don't have the right tools.

The 350Z race cars I used to work with replaced them pretty regularly...

Front & Rear...

They are not too difficult to replace...

PM me for forum pricing...

Bought a new front set from Hyatt Infinity here in Calgary and got hosed at around $460.00 parts only.

You will know if the bearings are bad due to the rumbling noise a bad bearing makes. The sound will change when applying brakes or cornering.

So sorry to hear you got ripped off BIG TIME!
That price would be reasonable if it'd included labor.
