Re: Uniden Bearcat BCT-12
I've never needed anything more than the V1; it's as sensitive as any other detector out there from the last honest reports. It has been said that recent "data" gathered by the folks at RadarTest.com may be tainted due to a falling out with Valentine himself, where they say the Bell and Escort perform better. My V1 is still 1 gen behind the latest V1s, but still has excellent performance.
In any case, if you do any city driving at all the V1 is fantastic. It's the only one with directional arrows to show you where the signal is coming from. When riding with friends and they get a radar hit they have no idea where it's located. They say it bugs the hell out of them. Is it that store over there? Is it someone's burglar alarm? They end up not knowing and ignoring it. The V1 tells you as you drive by, first its ahead of you, then to the side, then behind. It really pinpoints non-threat radar so you know where it is. Then, if there is a Cop hiding in the radar shadow of the non-threat area, it gives you two separate signals, still alerting you; very nice.
Mine has so far saved me once in my G. On the way home from work late one night, I passed an Expedition (me #1 lane, him #2) at about 90mph. About a half-mile before a big S-curve on the freeway I got a fast radar "brap" build up so I hit the brakes a bit. The Expedition went flying by me (probably about 85mph) in the #2 lane, hit the corner about 10 seconds later and there was the cruiser, sitting under the overpass on the corner. The Expedition's brake lights come on (now a good 100yds ahead of me) but the cruiser lit up the red and blues, passed me on the left and pulled over the SUV.
Thank you V1, it certainly would have been me. I should really just slow down.

Re: Uniden Bearcat BCT-12
I've got the BCT7 (big + 800mhz range) and the BCT10 (small). I recently permanently installed the BCT7 in my G. I think the BCT10 was a little more sensative, but that may be becuase I added metallic tint to the window.
never use these "instead" of a detector, but use them in conjunction with a V1 or high qual radar/laser detector.
My original post way back on Uniden BCTs

Re: Uniden Bearcat BCT-12
I have it in my din in my VR4. 800mhz was good in the 90s, now frequencies have changed. Back then cells were on the 800 band, now everything is digital. Truckers use cells now, and rarely use CB.
My warning buzzer is gimmicky. Trunking makes it hard to follow convos, so you need to program the buttons backwards on the BCT7. I want to try the BCT10 sometime.
The buttons wear over the years, so go easy on them. Scan instead of going up and down like nuts. Also hard to press when cold, very odd.
ANyone know where to buy them discounted/remanufactured??

Re: Uniden Bearcat BCT-12
I got the BCT-12 down here in FL.... and a V1....
The V1 is great for speed traps... but all the under-cover Florida Highway Patrol Cops that can pace you it does nothing... that is where the bct-12 comes in.... i can tell how many, if there are any Highway cops within 3 miles of me!!!!
I go on trips throughout Fl all the time.. and having both has proven priceless....
Although... interestingly ennough i got pulled over by a marked highway cop the other day for the first time... for: "driving cautiously behind a law enforcement officer, while using a radar detector...." no ticket or warning.... but she said that i looked like i was waiting for her to leave so i could speed up? I was very polite to her despite her yelling at me, like a drill seargent... and then politely told her i didn't appreciate her illagilimately pulling me over, and endanger my life..... have a nice day
she had already told me to go on my way... so i pulled out... (she had pulled me over on the FL turnpike on the center median with both our cars sticking out a couple inches... with cars flying by ar 80+)
BUT now that i have both... i can't imagine driving without them!

Re: Uniden Bearcat BCT-12
I just got the new Mac Daddy unit from BEL, the RX65. It should be here early next week, and I can't wait to get it on. I previously had a BEL 980 and loved it. I can't wait to see what this baby can do.

Re: Uniden Bearcat BCT-12
only bad thing about these i think is the false sense of security. lots of cops now are going digital and the beartrackers dont work on them. thats why i just decided to never speed again. so far, im failing miserably.
