Re: Lights - the final answer!

This is an AWESOME thread. Utilizing the information here I probably saved myself a ton of aggravation and also saved some money as well.

I just ordered some clear corners and 3 sets of PIAA Extreme Super Whites for the clearance strips and the clear corners. One extra set is for bulb burnout back up spare emergency..call-it-whatcha like. And I also ordered PIAA H4 Super Extremes for the foglights. Oh by the way, I am not advertising but umm...autobarn.com has a SALE on PIAA's.

I will try to post pics. I really have no idea how to install any of this stuff but I'll figure it out.

Once again, I am in debt to all G35driver members for the invaluable wealth of information shared here.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Not to burst your bubble, but you coulda saved some money by going to Import Performance Warehouse

I keep on telling people but no one listens.

PIAA 168 Extreme Super Whites for $10.87
Link #1

PIAA H4 Super Extremes for $63.71
Link #2

Didn't do any of the shipping calculations, but you woulda saved money on the bulbs themselves.

I don't work for the above company, I just ordered from them a coupla months back. Shipped item promptly. I ordered a total of 8 sets of wedge bulbs/T-6. No problems whatsoever. You can check out their feedback I gave on them on G35driver "buyer's feedback". I spent a good 2-3 hours trying to find the cheapest place and spread the word, but everyone seems to be going to other places like optauto and now autobarn.

Good luck with your install

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Wow...Great find!

I really didnt intend to imply that I was saving money on the price of the bulbs. I meant to imply that I saved some money that gets wasted when trying different bulbs to get the color desired. The pics on this thread are what really helped. I understand flash and time and angle all play into the pix.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Don't bother with the 'Cool Blue' bulbs. I had them in for a few days prior to trying to source the then new 9003ST (SilverStars) way back, and the Cool Blues are quite a bit dimmer than stock, though they look better.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

I tried the Silverstars for the fogs this past Saturday and was not impressed at all. Looked just like the stock except a bit brighter. I was about to try another brand. Surprisingly, after a few days I was about to head out one night and I noticed on the garage that the lights seemed to have gotten alot whiter. I got out the car and ther was a big difference, real cose to the headlight. I guess it took a little while to warn up. Looks pretty good now.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

OK, I finished with another few sets of bulbs for the clearance strip see the posts below for detailed pics and part numbers. I got all the bulbs from:

Options Auto Salon, in the 168 bulb section.

I edited each image to give the best representation of the real color and intensity to my eye on my monitor (Sony Engineer Trin 21"), but the LED images are still considerably darker than they appear. Perhaps the nature of LED light is less sensitive to CCDs than ordinary illumination. In any case, be advised that the actual LEDs are a bit brighter than the images below make them seem.

Let me know if anyone has questions . . .

First the stock look, with the exception of the 4500K fog.

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Now the "H.I.D." (laugh) super plasmas (which are actually halogens). I thought these would be quite blue, but they were actually a very nice white . . .

Now the Hyper Bulbs from Raybrig, not as bright as the plasmas, and a bit more yellow . . .

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Now the PIAA LEDs. This is what I decided to leave in. They are slightly blue and quite bright. A great match for my Xe + 4500K fogs . . .

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Now the amber bulbs. If these were just a tad better match for the stock corner and turn signal, I'd probably leave them in. They are very bright, light up the strip better than any of the others, and would look the best with just the parking lights on . . .

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Lastly, a front shot of the parking lamps with the LEDs in the corners. Nice clean look, with or without the headlamps and/or fogs on . . .

Re: Lights - the final answer!

Oh, and if you install the LEDs, remember that diodes only let current flow one direction, and thus are directional during installation. If you pop it in one way and it doesn't work, you probably have it backwards .
