I made this mod a long time ago but I thought I would be flamed for sure for doing such mod. Similar to people being flamed for having vertical door and be called a Lambo wannabe. I used an VW Jetta key fob and I prefer it over the Mazda keyfob because it has all the buttons(Panic is on the side of the key fob) for our G and also it has a red light that lights up when any button is pressed. I still have some pictures that I took when I did this mod.
This is not a complete DIY guide but it should give you an idea how much work is needed. I don't blame DSI for charging $300. It took me more than 10 hours to do this. The VW Jetta key fob goes for $30 on ebay. The hardest part is rerouting the circuits. The VW key fob circuit board is almost 1/2 the size of our G's.
Obviously you need these items first.

Now you need to take the switchblade out of the VW key fob. Just pull the switchblade up and you'll see the tiny hole. Put a nail in there and hammer it. The blade should fall off.
Disassemble your G35 key fob and the VW key fob. Our keys just snap in so just ply it open a bith on the outer edge and it should open. For the VW key fob, you need to open the key out and ply it open and pull the two halves apart. You also need to take out the VW emblem and unscrew the screw beneath it. After we're done with everything, you can take the Mt. Fuji emblem from the G and put it in place of the VW emblem.

Disassemble your G35 key and take the chip and the actual key out. It should look like this

Don't lose the chip! Your car won't start without it. The chip doesn't even have to be in the key fob for it to work but of course you want it to be inside the new switchblade key fob or you'll end up losing it.
Now go to your local locksmith and tell them to cut the top of your G35 key to look like the top of the VW key blade. Should take less than 30 seconds to do. They charged me $5 to do it. Should look like this when it's done.

Clear the cavity of the VW key fob so it can house both the VW circuit board, a battery, and our G circuit board.

I don't have the diagram for rerouting the circuit but it was on this board somewhere. I saw it earlier last week. You need to rerout the VW buttons to our G circuit board. A part of the G circuit board will have to be shaved in order for it to fit inside the upper part of the VW key fob. The hardest part is rerouting the circuit to a new location once you shave off part of the circuit board. Can someone with electrical experience draw a diagram for the circuit? One battery will power both the VW circuit board and our G circuit board. You need to wire it correctly. The flat side is + and the curved side is negative - .

As you can see the board sticks out so you need to shave the upper left corner and reroute the circuits in that area to a new location. I put the battery in the upper part of the housing. You can put the chip from your G anywhere in the key fob. You can even put it outside or hold it in one hand and turn the ignition key with the other. As long as your hands are close to each other. Ain't it cool!?!?
Put the top and bottom housing together and you're done. You'll have so many wires inside the key fob that it will be hard to keep it close. This is the only down side because I had to use super glue to hold it close. If the battery ever runs out it will be a pain to ply it open and change it. Not to mention that I soldered the wires already.
After you are certain that the key fob won't pop open, go ahead and put the newly made switchblade back in place of the VW switchblade.
This is a really cool mod but I would not do this again. I spent so much time on this and went through 2 G's remotes and 3 VW remotes. I already broke my key and don't feel like making another one at this time. I know this is a half assed guide so those with more experience please chime in and make it more clear for the rest.

If I want a switchblade key again I would definitely go with this product. And it's only $90.

I already contacted the autodoodad people and they said that it wouldn't accomodate the G35. However, if you do refitment, I'm pretty sure sure you could fit the G35 fob keys into any other switchblade fob casing.
I wish I had that many hours to play around with it to get that VW switchblade key fob housing done for the G.
