Weak parking brake
Weak parking brake
Hey guys,
I was wondering if I'm the only one with this issue...
It looks like the parking brake is somewhat weak. I feel I need to give it a good pull in order for it to hold the car in place. The car will roll even when it's parked on a fairly flat surface.
Also because it's so weak, I've almost drove away twice already with the hand brake pulled because there was almost no resistance...
Should I be pulling harder on it? Has anyone else noticed this with his/her car (6MT)?
(I've only had her for 6 days).

Re: Weak parking brake
Finally someone who has the same problem as i do
i told the service guy when i had my first oil change. apparently it is supposed to hold the car after 7 clicks. he tried it a coupla of times and he asiad u have to pull it up a couple of times for it to work. he basically said since it is a new car it will take a while........hasnt worked well yet.
having my 2nd service next week and will have them check it again.
i guess i will have to check the service manual cd to see what exactly they will be doing

Re: Weak parking brake
Yeah, I noticed that "problem" as well. I have to pull it up pretty hard for the brake to hold the car, and even then I don't trust it. Whenever I park, I leave the car in 1st as well as pulling up the hand-brake all the way. They say the parking brake gets stronger with time, but I don't know...my previous car (VW Jetta) only needed a few clicks of the hand-brake and it was tight and it was like that from day 1. I like to use the hand-brake to start from a hill and it makes it pretty hard with this loose parking brake.
Re: Weak parking brake
I had the same problem. I went and complained and they fixed it sorta. IMO its still weak but they gave me a lame excuse saying if they make it any tighter it will burn rubber. I was thinking in my head WTF you talking about? To tighten your ebreak, all you have to do is screw a nut down more. Thats how i did it with my old honda. ANyhow, i will address my ebrake problem once more on monday because i will submit all the problems i havw with this car and hopefully get it fixed.
Re: Weak parking brake
Have your local Infiniti service dept. adjust it.

Just have them adjust it. It's an easy fix. I did this to my Z awhile back ago so it will lock up after 4 clicks.

Re: Weak parking brake
Thanks guys,
Yeah I guess I WILL have them adjust that. Sometime I just stop the car for few seconds to grab something from the trunk, leave it neutral and hand braked, and find myself rolling even before I got to exit the car.

Re: Weak parking brake
Oh, so the dealership will adjust it?? Since my car is already there (sleeping outside, waiting for the parts to come in) at the dealership, I will tell them to adjust my e-brake and change my oil while they are charging me $2,000 for labor, lol.
Re: Weak parking brake
i remember a thread awhile back, about 10 months ago of somebody who went to the dealership and got it adjusted under warranty. Good luck

Re: Weak parking brake
Hey guys,
I too have the same issue. I just keep my car in gear when I park, along with pulling the parking brake. I also have a Hyundai Accent (go ahead and laugh - college car), and before my girlfriend ruined it - by driving 2 miles with the parking brake engaged - it only took about 2 clicks to hold it tight. So I don't know....
If anyone takes it to the dealership to get adjusted, let the group know the outcome. I have gone to dealer so many times about little bullsh_t things, that I don't want to deal with yet another little one ya know. Cool...
