Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

I personally think you whould go with an AEM bypass valve if you are to get any CAI. Water will totally screw up your engine.

JUST GET IT!

Ok here's a little vid I took on my way to work this morning. It's from the inside of my G, no windows open. You can clearly hear the Injen CAI.....

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

Here's something I posted just earlier last week. It may shed some light on some of your questions and worries...

Foremost, HDRO-LOCK is when NOTHING BUT water enters your engine, and I'm talking like you drove through a pond or river type of water. Hydro lock is rare if not impossible in rain and snow conditions, unless of course you just so happen to drive through a 4 foot puddle and stop in the middle of it, and quite frankly if you do just that, you shouldn't be driving a car such as a G and ultimately worry about aftermarket intakes...

The Injen CAI intake is designed for optimum air flow, thus its location at the bottom of the front bumper where it gets full and direct flow of cold "dense" air. This obviously is a concearn to many, but let me clear this issue once and for all.

I have the Injen CAI intake system on my G Coupe, and I have driven it through all sorts of rain storms, from just a sprinkle, to a full blown down pour, and have experienced NO problems what so ever! The ONLY problem with the system is the fact that it requires constant cleaning. I find myself cleaning the unit once every 2 to 3 weeks. It gets dirty FAST! You need to remove the filter, wash it out and then re oil it. I have the K&N recharge kit and it gets the job done 100%. The filter element itself, really won't soak up water (AS LONG AS YOU KEEP UP WITH ITS MAINTENCE) due to it's oil content. At high speeds in the rain, water that hits the filter, actually begins to beed off. It's not forced or sucked in. Once again the only time this would be a problem is if you sat in a huge puddle, high enough to cover that whole front bumper and let the filter soak everything in.

So if you're worried about water from rain or snow getting, don't! As for Injens warning, they have to protect themselve, due to the many idiots out there who just may do something as driv through a 4 foot high puddle...

Installation wise, you DON'T have to remove the front bumper! You can gain just enough access by going through the front driver side wheel.

Last but not least, I didn't install my intake for the HP figures they claim to give, but rather for the sweet sound it makes under hard acceleration. Come on, what an intimadation factor is that, huh? I love it!

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

that is what I am talking about. It is the same diameter as the Injen tubes? I was not sure if they would make it different so that you had to get the AEM setup.

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

The AEM bypass is a great little feature for those of us who live next to lakes, ponds, rivers and the ocean as a plunge into any of these bodies of water is what it will take for you to get any use out of it!!!!

It will only work if THE WHOLE INLET (filter and all) is emersed in water!

So once again, if you feel there's any chance that you may just so happen to drive into a small body of water high enough to completely cover the whole front-end of your car, and then STOP in the middle to allow your intake to suck all that water in, then getting the AEM would be a wise decision.

For the rest of us who would never in their right state of mind drive a G in anything near that much water, you need NOT WORRY!

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

Cleaning the cold air intake can be hassle for lots of people due to the road debries, facing directly front, etc...
If u r getting it for sound, short ram is good way to go. Makes same shhhhhhhhhh sound and definitly easy to clean the filter than cold air set-up.

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

ihad a hotshot CAI on my previous car and it was way more exposed to the elements than the injen, it was actually below the car right next to the wheel so when going thru a big puddle water was actually splashed on it, you could see it hanging down if you looked in front of the car, i have driven that car thu monsoons and never had any problems, so dont worry about it.

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

Isn't the Stillen Intake better? It doesnt sit that low so too much debris and water isnt such a problem.
Turbo magazine recently reviewed the Blitz intake as one of the best aftermarket kits available, but i think it sits too close to the engine to get colder air in. What do you guys think, I'm really in doubt if i want a intake at all, too much hassle.

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

That's why many folks r getting the Ztube with drop in air filter. good 2-4HP gain. plus OEM look with slightly louder sound. go to technical forum and look for yourself.

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

First off, I have to agree mostly with what you said. Hydrolock is not a conern for most people - general rain and even downpours are NOT going to be an issue. The only way you can hydrolock is if you went through an enourmous puddle WHILE GIVING YOUR CAR GAS. That creates the vacuum necessary for sucking in the water.

However, I have always stayed away from CAI's simply because of my location. In case anyone noticed this summer, Indy had some tremendous floods and I wasn't willing to make the sacrifice for an addition 5 ponies. To each his/her own in the end.

Also, I'm amazed that you have to clean your filter every 2-3 weeks. First off, I was under the impression that the filters actually worked better with a bit of dirt/dust. Also, I never clean my filters...typically they tell you one can go for 50,000 miles w/out cleaning..granted, that is probably too long but the fact still remains - I don't think it is necessary to clean the filter every 2-3 weeks.

Just IMO of course.

Re: INJEN CAI, worth it?

get racing stripes -- they give you at least 30 hp at the wheels.

windshield washer lights are for better cornering.

The Injen CAI will give you so much power that you won't be able to control the ar in dry weather. Try my methods

Rugrat, what tool did you use to cut your plastic intake cover?
