Best way to hold the trunk down?
I am going to be transporting a bumper in my car from SD to LA and it definitely won't fit in my car completely. So I and going to let a little bit of it hang outside and try to hold the trunk down with some rope or something. What's the best way to approach this? My trunk has the older oem spoiler. Thanks guys.
It may fit.. I just bought one and took my Altima to get it... it fit fine and I actually think it probably would of fit in the G... try turning it on its side and see... Good luck with it...

i tried tying the trunk down once when my cooler wouldn't fit into our joke of a space trunk. unfortunately, i couldnt' find a secure method for tying it down... so i took our mini cooper instead.
You might find more room within the cabin. Fold down the rear seat and the front passenger seat and do whatever it takes. I've had to get things in through the door that wouldn't make it through the small trunk opening.
And as for the bungee cords, if you have to leave the trunk open, use blankets to cushion the trunk lid and then cinch the rope/bungee tight. You don't want the trunk lid bouncing up and down at all, if you value your paint or the item your moving.
HOWEVER:
My bet is that you'll fit it inside the cabin/trunk with the trunk closed. You don't want to be sucking in exhaust fumes from SD to LA, which is exactly what's going to happen with the trunk open. Ever notice how dirty the rear bumper and rear of the trunk get? You'll suck in a lot with the trunk cracked open 6+ inches.

I fit a rear bumper & 2 side skirts inside my coupe before. You have to knock down the rear seats & recline the passenger seat all the way. Bumper fits from passenger leg room to rear seat on driver's side. Your rear view mirror becomes useless though.
I don't understand why it's so hard to hold the trunk down.... Use a bungee cord, or a piece of rope.... Then you slide one end into the latch on the deck-lid, until it clicks and latches onto it... Then you hook the other end onto the latch on the bottom. Works really nice if you have adjustable cords, like the ones I use.
To remove, just hit trunk-release, and the latch will let-go of the rope/cord.
