Top Speed 6MT - 5th or 6th?

Is top speed achived in 5th or 6th? What RPM is the non-revup coupe pulling in 5th at 140mph?

It seems 6th has serious overdrive.

Anyone remove the speed limiter for track use? Is this software?

Thanks,
Hickey

Why in the world would top speed be achieved in a lower gear!?!
Or are you asking if it is possible to get to 155mph in 5th as well as 6th?
Any case, I'm fairly sure you must be in 6th to get going that fast.

Yes, at about 155mph you'll be in 6th gear at about 5000-6000 rpms. eric wanna confirm this?

At 145 in 6th I think you'll be around 4500-5000. So I figure youll be aroud 5500 at 155. Not sure its been a while

5th tops out at 130-135 so to get to 155mph you have to put into 6th.

Just an FYI, you won't need to remove it for tracking, you're never going to get to that speed without a longass straight. Is it just me that thinks the 6th could be longer for the freeway?

It's actually not uncommon to go faster in the second highest gear. Top gear is often over tall for highway cruising/efficiency and at top speed the gearing is too high and the engine cannot overcome the wind resistance. It wouldn't surprise em at all if 5th was as fast or faster on top in the G.

you mean on 6mts right?

because if its 5mts the 4th gear tops at around 100 to 120mph

This doesn't apply to the initial question. My rev-up machine got to
146 in 5th and I had to hit 6th to get to 155.

Now I did face some head winds on that run so maybe that was a
factor?

I'm in the same boat at chobble. But I'm auto, and when I have it in 4th in manumatic it goes to 145. When I put it into 5th, it just stays at 145.

I agree, this engine doesnt have a lot, but it has enough low end torque to be at like 2600 rpm at 80mph instead of 3000 rpm.

But our tranny's are supposed to be close ratio boxes, so the faster in a lower gear thing doesnt really apply to the G's.

Yeah, I agree. Our engines have enough power to pull lower RPM's on the highway via a taller 6th gear. 3K @around 81 or 82 MPH is a little high for a performance V6 with such a fairly large displacement.

You are correct, it has nothing to do with the original question. It has to do with the one I quoted.

I never said this was the case with the G, I just said it could be and it IS with some other cars. I've read a few top speed tests on HIGH speed cars, 190mph+ where the testers got a higher speed in 5th than 6th.
