I hate Infiniti

Okay. I leased my car from the only Infiniti dealership. This car was my dream, the car I had wanted since college. When I could finally afford it I traded in my reliable, but un-sexy 98 Altima SE for a new Infiniti G35.

At first it was fine. I drove it most of the year; garage it over the winter, and brought the best backs out on the road come spring. I drive I-90, a well policed interstate, and usually kept it around 75 like most of my commute. I got my oil changed every 3000 miles and babied it like the manual says for the first part of its lifespan. I thought the car would run like a champ for years.

Then the problems started.

March I started hearing a rattle from under the engine usually on acceleration, it had only been 1500 miles since my last oil change so I didn’t think it was a big deal, and certainly I didn’t burn my oil up in 1500 miles. Still the noise got louder, and I took it to my one and only dealership. They had no idea the problem, but changed my oil for free and wa-la the noise went away. I was told to monitor it.

Well things were fine most of the summer, the car ran well, and I was pleased.

Then the rattle returned. IO decided to check my oil myself and found the car 2 quarts low, I was due for an oil change in another 1500 miles so I kept my appointment, and despite the throttle body going to hell and needing replaced (activating the check engine light,) the cars oil was changed. I expressed my concern to the tech at the dealership, he said it looked fine and left it at that, no real help despite me explaining how this was the 2nd time I had such a problem. I also find that my I-90 cruise control commute is hell for a car. It needs front and rear tires, and a new alignment. (sigh)

I wrote to Infiniti, as the dealership seemed to think everything was hunky dory. Explaining the issues I had and how nothing was being done, and how if this continued I’d expect to get out of my lease.

Hey what do ya know! I get a call a few days later from the dealership, now very willing to run a oil consumption report and take my issues seriously. So I take it in, first 500 miles the same tech whom I had problems with previously tells me the car is fine. I thought it strange but was willing to let the consumption report runs it’s course.

Next 500 miles I take it back. The car is 2 quarts low. 2 quarts in 1000 miles. I get a new tech, which is quite good and personable and lets me know how it is, as opposed to dancing around the issues. Cool dude. He schedules me for a service appointment. I am told the car (now with 14,500 miles on it in 13 and a half months) will probably need an entire engine teardown, maybe even a new engine. He schedules an appointment for me a week out.

I try calling Infiniti consumer affairs. Nothing. I get through, but can’t get ahold of anyone during their business hours.

I used their site to have someone call me. Nothing.

I try calling ICA again, getting basically the same response. Its business hours, but I have to work too and I can’t stay on hold for an hour.

Today I take the G35 to the dealership. The tech was cool, gets my cell number and tells me he’ll call me as things progress.

I get a call from the tech today during lunch. It seems before Infiniti will authorize anything they want a in house tech to drive it 1000 miles. 1000 miles out of my lease, and I guess I am supposed to be cool with this because the car is a frustrating hassle. The tech can’t do anything anyway as he’s just at the dealership, not Infiniti.

So here I am. I’m going to be down 1000 miles on this years lease allotment. Pay for a new car I bought so I wouldn’t have the hassle of my Altima getting up in miles, only to pay for a car and hassle.

Oh yeah… Infiniti hasn’t called me back…. Still.
I’m going to try calling them again in another hour or so.

<end rant/whine>

There isn't another dealership. Thats the problem.
Yeah i have the paperwork. I will keep this updated as the fun continues.

At this point i'd rather just be done with this lemon, and into something else.
As much as i love this car, it's frusturated me beyond what i could expect.

If i had kept the Altima at least i wouldn't be making payments on a hassel.

Your case is exactly why the lemon laws were passed. Don't hesitate to seek the assistance of an attorney. They can be a big benefit to you and getting Nissan to pay attention.

^^^What he said...They didn't attempt to fix it yet so Lemon law doesn't apply yet...

- Yes it's a 6MT.
- It's 30 days... not 3 times in Washington state.
- I just got off the phone with ICA. I explained whats going on. She seemed helpful enough, girl named Carrie. (I have no qualms at this point.) She was going to make some calls and call me back.

At this point if they'll let me out of their lease into another Nissan i'd be happy. Much as I want to love Infiniti... it'd be hard at this point to enjoy the car.

Washington state... there should be a variety of things that qualify you for lemon law: 30 days is one. There should also be something for if you take it in a bunch of times with no resolution... if it's a health threatening defect, etc etc

What kind of tire wear were you getting? by chance, was it the insides of the fronts (causing massive roaring)?

Hopefully you've kept all of your service reports from your visits to nissan, and maybe even your receipts for oil (date on receipts will help establish timeline).

Finally, do try to get a consult with a lawyer, or try posting up at findlaw forums. They seem to be helpful over there.

good luck man!

Yes. Exactly for the front tires. Was so obnixious. I had the car 13 months and driven it 11. Total of 12,000 miles when the tires needed replacing.
Back tires were bald like my dad.

Update!

Just got a called from some regional specialist. He explained why they'd need the car, and confirmed it may be in the shop for 3 weeks.

He said he would understand if I worked towards a lemon law end to this issue.
We'll see what happens. Meanwhile i am going to be driving my loaner all over the place.

Anyone want to car pool?

Why can't they just replace the motor? I've read that some of the G have burning oil problems...

They talked about repairing the motor but have no idea why it's doing what its doing. It's not leaking. The tech told me the dealership is talking about possibly more work than just an engine.

I have a loaner. G35x.

They will probably do a short block on the car...Just replace the block and reuse the other stuff...
