hows the short throw?

sup fellaz...i did search this and found a bunch of threadz about where to find this product...but non on how it actually performs. I was looking at the rouge enginering STS. Is this a worthy mod or just a waste of time? Also anyone with them...do you have any problems with it, im asking because 2 friends of mine with altima se-r's both with b&m sts on there cars had problems. One kid would have problems getting into second during hard driving ( he would seriouls miss alot) and the other the final night before he got rid of the car to get into the g35 he was pounding on it and actually broke the cable lma0.

Well I installed the RE short throw over the weekend actually and I have to say I love it! Not only is the throw like day and night compared to the stock one, but its got such a solid feel. There is really no vibration what so ever and whatever slop there was in the stock shifter is now eliminated. It does require a bit more effort to throw from gear to gear, but thats what you expect with a performance shifter. Especially when full out racing shifting the shifter feels solid with a CLICK every time you pass the gate into the next gear. It's like you can't miss cause its too obvious to tell you are in gear or not! If anything I've had to learn to relearn to shift quicker to keep up with the shorter throw because I'm shifting faster than my legs are used to clutching/gas. Now I've only been driving with it the past 3 days and its still being broken in, but even now i already love it. I really dont know why Infiniti didnt make this standard with the car! I guess to compromise with the luxury aspect of the coupes. It def feels sturdy and is worth every penny I paid for it. A def noticeable mod and much needed if you are going to start putting some power down with ur engine mods. Go get yourself one man and you'll know what im talking about, you wont regret it!

I'm not sure if the RE shifters are still available anymore. I've had one for over a year and I have had no problems with it. Shifting is notchy, predictable, and it is very easy to know which gear you are in and where you are going. There was a bit of break-in, but after you get used to the new shifting feel, I guarantee that you will agree that this is the shifter that should have come with the car. The throw difference isn't that much, ~20% and the shifter height is almost stock. This mod is easily installed and the instructions are clear and helpful. The biggest problem I had during the installation was getting the rubber boot back on after the shifter swap, you may also need some ratchet extensions to tighten the shift plate with ease.

it was the first thing I did to my car. I can't believe they don't ship them like this.
I Love it.

I love my B&M shifter. I've never had any problems with it. It definitely is a night and day difference.

Well, the way I see it is that you are asking the trans to do the same amount of work in less time. This would generally mean that the synchros have a greater possibility of wearing faster. Shifting extremely fast with stock shifter = bounce off the syncros, all a short shifter does is make slow shifters shift faster, thus they bounce off the syncros, and wear them out faster.

I disagree. Tranny wear is highly dependent on the habits of the driver. An STS makes shifting more precise. More precise shifts, made under normal (read careful) driving style will more precisely engage the synchros, creating less wear.

Of course, the aggressive feel of an STS creates a temptation to shift fast (hard) and it is that behavior will destroy the tranny over time.

The stock shifter was the first thing I hated when I test drove a G35. Fist thing I said to myself was "this shifter has to go" and it was the first thing I replaced when I bought my car. IMHO..the stock shifter sucks..so anything aftermarket is a great improvement. I can only speak for the RE shifter since I haven't tried out the rest..but it's 10X better!
