I'm 16 and i own a 2005 coupe. Its modified and i plan to do more. The thing i always say: "You can have a powerful car and drive it maturely, or you can have a slower car and drive it like a dumba$$" It's all up to the person.

 

Get a lower horse power car and learn to drive rear wheel drive first. I had a camaro at 16 and learned all about oversteer

 

Most 16 year olds are going to be too immature to drive a quick car. But what about the ones that are? What about the ones that are more careful drivers than you might be? What about the cautious ones? The great drivers? Not everything applies to everyone. You cant tell someone whats the correct thing to do over the internet. One thing for one person may be the completely incorrect thing for another person. It all has to do with the personality and maturity level on that individual.

Ok the G is my first car (Got it when i was 16 and am now 17) and to me, it doesn't have enough power...

 

We just had a baby boy and I would never buy a 35 for my son @ sixteen. Honda Civic (used) if that.

What was your first car? Mine was a 84 Nissan/Datsun Sentra ..whopping 86 horsepower.

i know i havent been here very long just got my g last week. But im 19 and this is 3rd car. Yes i was the stupid 16 yr old in the Z4 BMW that totalled it after a year and then i took very good care of my next car a 530 BMW, which i still have. The G is very different than any other car i have ever driven. In the BMW you can be goin 90 and it feels like your doin 30 in the G you kinda can feel how fast your goin. Its not the fast car but it has enough to get you into trouble. Would i buy my kid one? Prolly they seem to be very safe.

Im 17 and this is my second car, learned to drive on a 98 3.2tl for 8 months, then got this in a stick, 05. Its definatly different, but i never speed, ever. no joke. I just understand if i get in trouble, its gone.

G35 going slow > G35 that goes fast, yet taken away.

My friends love my car but they also know I am very responisble with it and dont risk it in any situation. But also dont think that all accidents are started by kids, sure you hear alot on the news and people throw statistics at you like no other. "Kids kill more kids in cars then have been born in the last century" it boils down to kids being killed because they dont wear seatbelts, they are drunk/high, its not like adults dont get into accidents. I live in Southern California so i deal with HORRIBLE drivers everyday, most are women sitting 2 inches from the wheel or on their phone(im not sexists you know its true)

point of the story is, **** happens, stop blaming the kids. blame rap.

 

I found a solution for you....

I saw a nice G35 coupe for sale w/o an engine. You could put a Honda Civic 1.6 liter in it and it would be so reliable, and I bet you wouldn't get in any speed related accidents.

Problem solved. The car will still look nice and you can pick up chix rolling through the student parking lot when the bell rings.

Some of the responses here are just ridiculous.
You guys saying that your 16,17,18 or whatever and a mature safe driver sound just like that kid on the BMW forums that wrecked and killes himself and friends in the M5. He talks about how safe he is and doesnt speed but than again he manages to fly off a runway.

 

Are you serious? Maybe it is just me, but i look for a car with the best performance, features, and looks and NOT solely on looks. I guess you are just a kid who wants to "look" cool. All you need for the "cool" factor is anything with a BMW sign on it. And I love it when people are like it will get you because that is pathetic. But maybe you do not like/respect cars on a level as some of us do on here.

 

I'm paying 100%. I even have to pay for gas and insurance. But to answer your question. Most kids on here had their parents pay for half or the whole thing. Although some are giving their parents money per month for the car. But than again they do not pay for insurance. Some people got them as a gift. Theres a wide variety but I think I covered most that I have read. But to some a $20,000-$45,000 car is nothing. And their parents are a bit more on the generous side, but I feel you learn nothing. That's just my opinion.

But I do not get it, what is so speacial about a G35? Any car can go 80mph+ so whats the big deal. Just to give you a tip, 80mph is enough to kill you. So please someone tell me why is it a big deal that a kid is in a g35 as opossed to a civic? Please!
