My Injen system is less than 5 months old. I got it in late July and had no such noise prior to installing the HFC. It wasnt until I got my car back from the dealer after getting my engine replaced did I start to hear the buzzing/rattling noise. I got my HFC from Tony back in mid-October and did not have this noise at all. When I got my car back from the dealer, at first I thought, "o great, this brand new engine is already rattling. Dont tell me I have to get another replacement with only 400 miles on this engine" But then, I saw this thread and realized that it wasnt my engine, it was in fact my HFC. I have the ceramic version and they make the same noise as Calvin's metallic HFC.

Im looking for an answer as to how we can resolve this issue. Now, if the noise is just a noise, I guess I can live with it as long as the HFC aren't going bad or what not. But if this rattling/buzzing noise is a warning sign to a soon-to-be "fubar'd" HFC, then something needs to be done.

Dont get me wrong, I love my HFC and am very impressed with FastIntentions and their work, Im just curious as to what this noise may be.
OK - so the noise only appeared after you got the car back FROM the dealer AFTER getting a new engine installed, is this correct? What happened to the engine?

This slight rattling snake/Zzzzz that everyone is having during decceleration, I have it as well.

I had it and would hear it prominently when I had my Random technology high flow cats on with my Borla exhaust. I still have it (though not as loud as before) with my Crawford high flow cats. It is normal. It is air resonance due to the cats (Random tech, crawford, fast intentions, etc.) ability to flow exhaust gases out more than our stock cats.

I have not installed my fast intentions cats yet, but I don't plan on worrying about that sound as i've gotten used to it.

To my knowledge, yes. I did not notice the noise prior to having my engine replaced. My engine was replaced under warranty due to oil consumption problems.

Rick, Im not trying to start any argument nor am I bashing the product or company, just curious as to what the cause of the noise is. Thanks!

dude - your cool..just trying to figure it out too.

One of the potential issues I see, is that with the oil consumption issue, comes excess blow by through the exhaust..this issue can cause the CATS to break down, etc...just observing and learning more.

I agree with Calvin. I love my cats but that darn noise is embarrassing. The thing is that, my evo 2 only has a flex joint on the passenger side. so the theory rick has about the noise coming from the flex joints isnt neccessarily 100% correct. Ive had someone in the car up on the lift at work revving it up and the noise is most pronounced on the drivers side where there is no flex joint for the y-pipe. everything is tight & no exhaust leaks were found.

so far there at alot of guys running different exhaust setups & all seem to get this noise after the FI HFC install. Soooo.... it seems to me that its not the catback systems but rather the HFC.

some guys have mentioned the Crawford cats not making this noise. Its it because of it having the heatshield present? I mean visually they appear to be different than the FI cats.

this is seeming to be a big problem now i thought i was the only one for a while but it is the TP and HFC. and so far i think the only brand not having the problem at least frequently is crawford? ya

Listen to that clip...

That buzzin sound you hear...guess what? Its a 'de-tuned' version of a rasp. No matter what, any hi-flowing cat will rasp due to the more free-flowing air. Unless some1 can build a test-pipe with the largest and longest resonator, guess what, you will get some form of rasp regardless. If FI couldn't do it, I guess no1 can.

essentially what I need to know is...

1. is this a charateristic of FI HFC or all HFC's in general.
(we need input from those of you running another brand HFC)

and....

2. what if anything can be done to minimize and/or help eliminate it.
