Hi all,
Yesterday I walked in to a Firestone service center to ask about oil change prices because I am getting fed up with Tire Kingdon. Anyway, while I was there I found out that they have regular oil change for US$24.99 and Synthetic oil for US$44.99. This is the cheapest synthetic oil change I have seen so far. So I asked what kind of oil do they use and they told me Kendall full synthetic. Is this oil of lower quality or these guys are really giving us consumers a very good deal? History and logic make me lean towards the first option so I wanted to get some input about it here.

Why? Kendall = Walmart brand?

 

Kendall makes decent oils, lot of shops uses it. Just see if its bottled or bulk. If its bottled i would use it.

 

I was doing some research about oils but even though I am an engineer I know nothing about chemnistry. One thing I did understand is that the bulk Kendall oil has a lot of residue (of something) in it.

 

There's a reason why a place would charge very little for an oil change. If you get your oil in bulks, depending on brand and grade it would be 3-5 dollars per gallon. They store it in a 300+ gallon tank and pumps it out of there to use. I would also say they are not the highest quality oil because sometimes they switch brands or grades and do get mixed together. You get what you pay for in this business, so always ask for bottled oil when ever you get your oil changes. My advice, ask your mechanic or shop manager if you could bring your own oil and filter, without asking they might get the wrong idea and feel offended. Most places hate people who brings their own parts because they lose profits and they'll probably make that up with labor charge.

 

Go to PepBoys buy some Royal Purple and a Good oil filter such as mobil 1 or fram X2 and take it to a small mom and pop shop. Thats what i do and i have no issues and you know what kind of oil they are putting in.

 

or go to autozone and get castrol 0w-30 which is euro synthetic blend, the best stuff

 

just do it yourself save the labor charges for some beers and then you know what you got know that it is done right and have no worrys

i wonder what kinda oil grant put in my car....lol

he works at firestone...ill ask him to chime in when he can

 

X2 is the better version of regular filter

0w 30 is good for new cars or somewhere where it is not too hot. For hot climate i would use 5w at least.

 

Fram sucks period.

 

My choice Mobil 1 synthentic and K&N oil filter........quality stuff all the way!

 

^^ K&N if i'm not mistaken has someone else make their oil filters for them

and you are basing this on what???? Did you open up an oil filter to look inside? or is this by the seat of your pants assumption.
