u dont really need it but it's convenient to mount it close to ur hand so u can mute the beeps. i have the concealed display in my ashtray.

it's not worth the upgrade...the newest version is mainly for european driving with the euro mode... i see no differences between pop and pop2 (if there is any real difference)

i have the latest with the euro and pop2... the euro mode isnt even active unless u turn it on through programming

putting it in your ashtray isn't ideal... you have to look down away from the road just to see it.

Call Valentine Research at 1 800 331 3030 and ask for a returned V1 and you will get 10% off the retail price of $399. It will be the latest version V1.8 POP2 w/ Euro-mode and 3.858 firmware and that comes with all the accessories and a 1 year warranty.

I found a pretty good deal on a passport 8500 x50 for 250; and I researched the two, ppl seem to be pretty split between these two with the v1 ppl staying true to it and vise versa, is there really any BIG differences asides from the directional feature ? thanks agian for the ongoing help guys
