How do you take out the shift knob?

I thought the towel was only for clean up. whatevs.
Just use a crescent wrench (make sure the jaws dont have teeth), and tighten it onto the lower part of the shifter (more rectangular, rather than ball), and twist til you can loosen with your hands. You shouldn't need a particular shift **** other than one with a thread size that will match the OEM. Also, if the new shift **** you're getting doesn't have a place to easily vise-grip with, then you might have some problems if it needs a spacer. Or maybe not, I'm not sure.
