That Sucks

Got my 06 6mt G in April of 06, and I love it. But since the first week I had some complains about strange noise when I started to accelerate (kind of ringing that you hear on older cars or when you the car has too low rpms for the gear), also it made noises when I was changing gears or even pressing the clutch. Dealer told me that some parts work louder in G because they high performance and they could not duplicate the ringing noise. Same story on the next visit.
Than I hear a jack hammering noise in the morning on the way to work. I checked the engine oil and it was very low (added almost 4 quarts). Dealer told me that new engines sometimes take oil at the beginning. Skeptical but OK, this is not my first brand new car also I have owned 300ZX turbo and Twin Turbo before and they never gave me such problems. Last weak I started to hear the similar noise again (not as loud though) and again no oil. I have put 2 more quarts ‘cause I was taking the car to the dealer the next day for oil change and some other small issues.
I have told them that that for some strange reason I had to add 6 quarts of oil between oil changes (I do the oil change every 4000 miles). Then I complained again about a ringing noise and sluggish performance (I raced my friend’s stock F-150 and barely passed him in)
Next day I get a call from the dealer that I might need a new engine, because there are some strange noises and also that could be why performance decreased. Also the oil issue added to the situation. The dealer is not a 100 % sure because they need OK from Infiniti since it is a pretty expensive. So now I have the whole weekend to worry to what they are going to do. The car is like 8 months old and has only 8000 miles. If the dummies would check it properly the first time I complained maybe this could be avoided.

Sounds like tranny chatter to me. It's normal and worse with a single pc light flywheel.

It may also be from the low oil. ~1qt consumption between changes is normal. 4qts is bad!!

I added 6+. First time 4 after maybe 2500 miles and now 2 quarts( that wasn't even to full) just to get the car to the dealership. All of this within one oil change.

some engines are defective. my service tech said hes replaced so many engines and infiniti has refused to acknowledge the issue. he recently had a new 06 keep coming in for low oil...they did an "Oil Consumption Test" and found the engine to be faulty. Infiniti bought back his car with only 4k on it...

I would be thrilled if they bought my car back. I'm going through the consumption test now. I have no faith in this car to be reliable in the long run. How is that going to lok when i try to sell it?

Why does the engine have 5000 less miles than the car?
Oh, Infiniti had to replace it becasue it burned a crap load of oil.
Oh, that's reassuring...............

When I was dropping the car of they told me they might have to do consumption test, seal everything and let me drive it for 1000 miles, but then when the dealer called me he was talking about engine replacement. At this point, if this is the case, I'm thinking about having them to replace the car for a brand new G. Things happen and I still think that there is no better car for the money.

Got the word from my dealer that they will drop a new engine into my G. According to him it was supposed to be brand new long block engine Asked him what it means and he said that everything is already mounted all they have to do is install.
But when I called Infiniti Customer Relations to find out staff about warranty some lady said that it might not be new engine. She told me that dealer will have to put whatever Infiniti will send them. Could be rebuild. (Everything new but the core) I said what the ....! 8 month old car and I complained from the start, and because previous service advisor was just blew me off I have to settle for this. I guess my lawyer will be getting a call from me. He already helped me with Chrysler few years back.

Also: conversation with previous advisor( not the guy who is actually helping me now):
Me: What does the blinking air bag light mean? Should I worry about it?
Advisor: You need to bring the car for service of airbag system.
Me: This is one of your loaner sedans.
Advisor: Oh, don't worry about it then, let us know about it when you bring the car back.
Me: But, I will be using it for a while since you guys don't know yet what to do with my coupe.
Advisor: It just means that it stored a message.

I called 3 more dealerships in the area and asked the same question. All of them told me that yes I can drive the car, but airbags might not work properly in the accident. Finally I called my advisor and he also confirmed that I should bring the sedan back as soon as possible.
