Need URGENT advice - Jack bent and car fell off

Re: Need URGENT advice - Jack bent and car fell off
For whatever that matters, I was doing the side marker - blinker mod the other day, and used the jack to raise the car and remove the wheels to gain better access to the front well.
Anyways, while raising the car, I noticed it was quite difficult and stiff. It felt, as if I'm trying to jack a 4 ton truck. I never had to use so much force with previous cars.
Could it be defected?, and having the car fall off is just a matter of time?

jarrettblue - I feel your pain, the same happened to me on my BMW when I was changing my rims. I got really scared because my brother and his friend were close to the car. I had nightmares about that for a whole year thinking what could have happened if we were a little closer to the car when it fell. The jacks that comes with cars, no matter the make, are usually pieces of sh*t. From that day on, I promised myself I would never change my rims on my own.

Never trust your life to a jack, be it the OEM emergency jack, or a 4 ton floor jack. They can all fail and fall. Always, always use jack stands or some solid object to prevent the car from crushing you should it try to fall.

Re: Need URGENT advice - Jack bent and car fell off
Thank you all for your comments and advice. I scheduled an appointment with my dealer later this week for them to inspect assess any damage.
The car 'feels' fine, but that is as effective as the 'butt-dyno'.
The most alarming thing was the, if it had fallen a moment later, my arms would have been in or near the wheel well, aligning the replacement tire.
Again, thank you all for you comments and concern and I'll be sure to let you know what results from the dealer. I also intend to write a official letter of complaint to Infiniti.

Actually, this same thing happened to me. My jack bent and it lowered my coupe... good thing I had floorjack right in position! In any case, I brought mine to the dealer and they gave me BS on how they didn't replace them. I just complained a bit mre about how it could have hurt me, etc. And they gave me a new one the same day. This is Miller Infiniti in Van Nuys (CA). It's easy to get the jack replaced but hope nothing's wrong with your car...

As others have advised, the emergency jack should only be used for "EMERGENCIES". For tire rotations, use a proper floor jack, jack stands AND wheel blocks.
For oil changes, and other under car work, consider a drive-up ramp. Unless you've lowered your car, you'll be able to drive up the ramp without scraping, and it will give you enough clearance to work under the car.
