ECU upgrade questions...?
ECU upgrade questions...?
hey guyz, i've been doing some research but i havent found any solid numbers. for those of you that have done ecu upgrades, how much HP did you gain? how much did it cost? and exactly what did you do?
-thnx

Questions....................
Unless you've made some major mods doing anything with the ECU is
worthless. You'd need all my mods plus headers and hi-flow cats or test
pipes to need an ECU reflash. Even then I'm not sure how much H.P.
that would pickup.

You may get some improvement even stock, or minor intake mods like plenum (about the max).
Once you get into the exhaust is when things start to break loose (in a good way) and when you want an ECU tune to get your A/F ratio in line and a good ignition curve as well as raising the RPM limit and having the throttle go full open at WOT.
So a small gain for the same amount of money for a reflash, against a major gain with the other right stuff done to the car.

its a 04 so no worries. yea i was thinking that after getting all the mods one can upgrade the ecu to kind of "bind" the mods so they work together to produce some good results...

It's a waste of money for the G. An ECU reflash or a new chip is great for turbocharged cars, since they will increase the boost. For example the GTR will be a great candidate for a chip. From the factory the boost will only be 10 psi and even that will produce around 450HP. The chip will increase that to well ove 500HP by increasing the boost significantly.
Granted a reflash etc, is essential for turbo or SC cars. But anytime you change the A/F ratio and tend to drive hard it is wise to have ECU programmed.
You can't argue with the success others have had, including the dyno numbers as well as better drivability for those with extensive exhaust mods.
