Strictly Z Aluminum Pedals - Installation Help!

I was trying to install the aluminum racing pedals from Strictly Z into my G35 coupe tonight (manual) and came into some difficulty getting the clutch and brake pads on. These things were just impossible to get around the metal plate. Any suggestions from those that have successfully installed them?

I am going to try to use my friend's garage tomorrow because he has an outlet and I am going to try using a hair-dryer to soften the rubber so that it is easier to get around the metal plate... Any advice appreciated...

Thanks... One frustrated G-owner.

Ha Ha Ha - Join the club!
Those things are annoying to put on, but they will go on. Just takes a little finess. I don't know if a hair dryer will do much, but you can give a shot.

I used a hair dryer and screwdriver to pry them on and also found it helpful to put them on slightly diagonal and twist them on. Others have also used soapy water or a little grease/oil.

Good luck!

Boiling water with soap worked great.

Re: Strictly Z Aluminum Pedals - Installation Help!

i just used a hair dryer...i went in my house, used the hair dryer for all the pedals, then came out and put them in in about 5 minutes. It softens it up for a while so you dont really need an outlet in the garage for this to work. Its really easy. Just use the hair dryer for about 2-3 minutes per pedal and you should be fine. Watch the metal though since that obviously can burn your skin off after using the dryer.

Re: Strictly Z Aluminum Pedals - Installation Help!

i soaked the pedal in hot, hot water instead, eaiser to do then hair dryer. and used vasaline sparingly instead of wd 40. i did want the smell of the wd to interfere with my new car smell! use a short flat screwdriver. hook the lip on one corner furthest from you and work the blade accross the top and bottom towards you. it will come eventually. takes about 10 to 20 minutes. just get your girl to massage you back afterwards, trust me it will be killing you.

don't start no sh*t, won't be no sh*t!

Re: Strictly Z Aluminum Pedals - Installation Help!

Two questions:

1) For those that used WD40, did the smell linger in your car? If so, how did you go about removing that smell?

2) Where did you apply the WD40?

- only on the metal pedal plate?
- only on rubber on the alumimum covered pad?
- on both?

Thanks.....

1) it did smell a bit,but went away by itself the next day.just don't spray too much.
2) apply on both.use gloves or piece of rag to handle pads while install (slippery)
btw,it took me less than 10 mi. to complete the job. good luck

Re: Strictly Z Aluminum Pedals - Installation Help!

I installed it the same as Carmeljoy did, with vasoline. I didn't want the WD40 smell in my car. It is a little difficult but eventully went on.
I was wondering, does StrictlyZ supply the gas pedal clip with its kit these days. When I bought my kit from them several months ago they claimed all parts were included; however when I went to install it I found they did not supply the gas pedal clip, they claimed they couldn't get it, and advised people to cut off the old one and use it. How mickey mouse! I went to an Infiniti dealer and bought a new clip.So it cost me more $$ and time.
I've noticed Grubbs sells the kits for about the same price and includes all parts including the clip - so I would direct people to buy it from Grubbs.

Re: Strictly Z Aluminum Pedals - Installation Help!

Hi all,

I just got done putting on the clutch and brake pedals... My fingers are so sore that I can barely type (my sad story.. haha)... But I did use the hair dryer trick and it worked really well. I got both pads on with less than 10 minutes of effort, and there is no smell of WD40 or vasoline in my car.

Now I am waiting for Strictly Z to send me the gas pedal. They forgot about this one, and no they do not provide the clip. They want you to reuse the clip that is already there.

Did anyone else (who ordered from Strictly Z) have a problem reusing the clip?

i got my pedals for grubbs and the new clip comes included. but honestly unless u damage the old clip you should be able to use it again with no problem.
