Hey! New guy with a few questions!

Hey guys!, I have been browsing the forums for a month or so now and though I would sign up since a few days ago I bought my first G35. I bought it from carmax and had the extended warranty on it (so its protected for 6 years or 60,000 additional miles). When test driving it, the car seemed like a dream. Now after having it home, there is a few concerns of mine that I would like to get some advice on (I have used the search function but I hope that I could get a more straightfoward and exact answer from you guys).

1# When reversing and applying the breaks it makes a pop sound. It is obviously the breaks, but just curious if this is normal. The sound only happens when the breaks are pressed the first time from reverse and the first time from forward. If the breaks are pressed slow enough you hear the back ones pop first then a 2nd later the front ones pop. It is semi loud from the outside and just curious to if this is a common thing. (It has factory Brembo breaks).

2# The clutch seems to grab right at the very top, making it very difficult to get used to if your used to a clutch with more range of motion. Is this normal as well? I have read about a clutch adjustment, but was curious if this was for people in the same situation as me or if it was for something different.

3# When leaving from a stop, with the windows down, I notice a rattle noise like something loose. I know its a rather vague description but I figure if it is normal then you guys would know what I am talking about. It is almost like a chatter. Is there anyway to prevent this if it is normal?

I think that is all of my questions for now. If I come across anymore I will just edit the post and add them. Thanks for the help guys, so far this forum has been real help and I really appreciate it. Lets just hope my G isn't broken from the get go =P

Well, I have had an 03 for a few months now and I can try and address your questions.
1# Could be a loose bolt or something, im not really sure about that one.

2# The stock clutch in the G,.. well ,.. sucks, yes it grabs at the top and it is somewhat tricky to engage 1st and 2nd easily and smoothly if its a big problem, change the clutch and get a light weight flywheel.

3# I dont mean to insult you but I had a similar rattleing problem with my first car (saturn SC2) when i was just learning to drive standard. It can come from sucking at shifting, and comming out at to low rpm's

Im pretty new to these cars myself but through a little searching and some past driving experiance i think have somewhat addressed your questions.

^^ agree with MXKON #2 and #3, but #1 you may have to bring back to dealer have them check out the rear axle issue.

Well the answer to your first question is that you have whats called axel clicking, atleast thats what it sounds like to me. It was a problem with most 03-04 models. The axel wasnt given enough lube from the factory. Go to www.infinitihelp.com they will show you a "do it yourself" DYI for fixing it. Basically you need to take the axel out and put some m77 grease on it and then put it back in...takes about a half hour.

The 2nd question, i have an auto so i wouldnt know, but i heard the stock clutch on the G sucks.

The 3rd question, it might be the rear view mirror, there was a problem with the 03-04 as well with a peice on the mirror being loose. Go to www.infinitihelp.com to fix that one as well.

EDIT: Here is the fix for the axel clicking ( http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../ITB05-002.htm )

Here is the fix for the mirror ( http://www.infinitihelp.com/Ownershi.../ITB04-046.htm )

i got my car from carmax too. any problems you experience, take it to the dealership if its still under warranty. i dont trust those carmax guys. i got my car with problems. luckily most of it was still under warranty at that time.

You will have to find out (as best you can) where the rattle is coming from and we can probably help you more with #3.

If you are launching from a stop properly, there could be a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) that will fix the rattle, or if you aren't launching correctly, your RPMs could just be too low and there will be no fix (except keeping your revs up a bit).
