I took off from a light quickly just for kicks and got up to @ 68 MPH in a 55. I was just cruising along , not really paying attention to my speed. About a minute late the officer pulls me... He was cool and just gave me a verbal warning. He states: people get these fast cars and feel they have to test them out at every opportunity.... that's how some people get killed. I concurred as he gave me a break after verifying my info.

I guess it could have gone a lot worse for you. Some cops are cool and understand what it's like to own a ride like ours.

Driving old American muscle cars would get me a lot of respect from cops. I'm not saying that to sound macho or arrogant and I apologize if that's how it comes across but I NEVER got a ticket driving my '59 Chev Impala or my '69 Dodge Super Bee. I would get pulled over from time to time but only so the cop could stand there and reminice about when he used to own an old piece of iron.

I remember pulling up to a stop light in my '59 Chev and then another car pulled up beside me at the light. I didn't bother to look over until the driver started gunning in engine and doing the 'lurch-break-lurch-break' maneuver like he wants to race. So I'm thinking "who's this idiot who wants to have a go?" It was a police paddy wagon.

Then when I had my Super Bee, the same cop would pull me over whenever he saw me just to talk some more about my car. I tried to be polite but man, that guy didn't care if I had somewhere to go or not - he'd pull me over every time he saw me just to yak about old Mopars.

Sorry - I guess I got a little off topic there.

 

I can't say the same about cops around here. They will pull over ANYBODY driving my 280zx for ANY reason. I've been pulled over for "cutting off a police officer", basically changing lanes without signalling 6 carlengths ahead. I've gotten a seatbelt ticket!

Kahboom i have gotten exact same warning from a cop in nj, I took a fast right turn and got pulled over. Same as you thoug just a warning and let me go.

I agree with that, unfortunate but true because most of the people driving these older cars are white. However, you dont hear anyone with some color driving an Impala getting let off easy out here in LA, thats for sure.

the second day i owned my g i got pulled over by the airport police while picking up my sister over this thanksgving. i was driving in a line of others and we were all going about 35 in a 35. he singled me out (2 strikes: driving while black and in a new nice car) to stop and said to me "trying to see what it can do huh!" i was thinking my mind - stupid you obviously have no idea what it can do. racist haaa-ter. enough said.

I give props to the officers in my area.. They are very respectful and profesional. That also goes for our state troopers. although they NEVER give you a break.

I've gotten pulled over tons of times in the coupe. The coupe is a magnet for cops. I had a 99 Prelude with 10% tints and a bunch of other stuff illegal on the car and never got pulled over once! Most recently I got pulled over for not having a front license plate (I had a chrome Infiniti license plate to match my chrome 20's)... he gave me a ticket for the license plate and for not having a seat belt. South Jersey cops are no joke... I live in Paterson, NJ but have family in the Willingboro/Burlington/Camden area and there was a stretch in the summer where I got pulled over every weekend for a month! For no reason (they would just get my license and registration then tell me to move along)... Not to mention to countless times where I was followed for a couple of milesI guess it's driving while black...After awhile I figure the cops in the area recognized my car because they haven't harassed me in a while. The same thing happened with my cousin who has a CLK.

 

There are many variables in getting a ticket. The two main ones are: the officers attitude and the state, city, or counties speeding policy. I'm a deputy and our policy is education over punishment. Here is how I base my traffic stops...10-14 mph over = warning, 15-19 mph over = warning/ticket, 20-more = ticket....warnings also depend on attitude of subject. My department gives twice as many warnings as tickets.

It does not matter what you drive, but people with performance cars do tend to speed more. Lets face it, its easy to speed in the G.

Man what state are you in? Here in NC, the law is that if you're doing 15mph or more over the limit, and the officer chooses to press the issue, there goes your license. Most don't do it for 1st time offenders but it's possible.

 

I work in the Kansas City area. 20 mph over can be written as more than a traffic violation and sometimes it is depending on how the person was driving.
