Installed PIAAs Tonight... pics included.

I just replaced my stock Fog Lights/High Beams with some PIAA Xtreme Whites H4's. I also replaced the stock clearance light bulbs with some PIAA 168 White-Blue LEDs. I took several pics to compare the stock setup with the new one. Enjoy!

Re: Installed PIAAs Tonight... pics included.

Actually the second pic makes the lights look like they match perfectly, but in reality, this is not the case. The Xtreme Whites are still more yellow than the HID's, but they are a MUCH better match than the stock fogs. I was really trying to find some Catz Aqua Whites locally but couldn't, so I opted for the PIAAs. Here's a pic of the new setup with the flash on. This one is more realistic than the above pics in terms of color.

Are those "blue" clearance LEDs legal?? I like the look, but I can't imagine they are legal...

Re: Installed PIAAs Tonight... pics included.

you will get a ticket for the blue clearences - just a matter of time, just ask afropuff. so you will have to swap them out, again, plus the cost of the ticket. in my opinion, not worth it.

don't start no sh*t, won't be no sh*t!

Yea if I remember correctly, afr0puff had the Blue PIAA LEDs, not the White/Blue. But I guess the White/Blue are still blue enough to attract police attention.

They weren't too hard to install. The clearance lights, you might be able to get to from the engine compartment if you have small hands. Otherwise, you'll have to get to them via the wheelwell. There are about 8 clips, one screw and 8 bolts to remove to take out the fender lining. Then it's a straight shot to the back of the headlight unit. The clearance lights have a tab sticking out that just needs to be rotated and it pops out. The bulb is a simple plug and play. The fog/hi beams have a cover to unscrew, wiring harness to remove and then a clip to squeeze and pull out of the way. Then the bulb comes right out. You should be able to do both sides in under an hour. So, basically it's a little bit harder than typical, but not unreasonable.

Finally on the legality of the blue colored lights on the front of my car... I have checked with local speed shops and no one has heard of anyone in Arizona being pulled over for it. I have only heard of two people getting pulled over for the blues and they were running either blue-blue or blue-white with the white blacked out (and they lived in Jersey and LA, not Arizona). The last picture I attached more resembles what my car actually looks like... kind of a light blue-gray. I'm sure it's possible that I find a cop who woke up on the wrong side of the bed, who will pull me over for it, but I think I can get out of it. I may put a roll of masking tape in my car to cover them up if I get pulled over and then promise to reinstall the stock bulbs... playing dumb all the way of course.

Oh yeah, one more thing... Are these treated any differently than the blue LED windshield washer squirters or neon lights under the car. It seems like blue is blue and people are running all over the place here with those setups (especially the squirters).

Re: Installed PIAAs Tonight... pics included.

I've had both the BLUE-BLUE LEDs in my car and the BLUE-WHITE LEDs in my car. The BLUE-BLUE ones literally scream "pull me over!" I took those out the same day I put them in. As for the BLUE-WHITE bulb, I had blacked out the white LED, so you don't have the obvious "glowing" source. The whole strip was the same color throughout, pretty much. I went several months before getting pulled over in NJ. Cop was a ***** with nothing better to do that night. All the cops in the courthouse that saw my pictures said "yes, its illegal, but I wouldn't have bothered." Some actually said they looked nice on my car. Even though I had replaced the bulbs back to OEM, I didn't get the lucky fix-it ticket deal. Had to pay the ticket and the court fee. Cop showed up. I would have had the ticket thrown out if he didn't. Prosecutor agreed with me that it was an "honest" mistake and they weren't offensive considering you couldn't see the distinctive blue light unless you were within five feet of the car.

I plan to put the lights back in and take my chances that I won't get another easily annoyed John McClaine wannabe cop. However, I am talking to a guy who can make a custom LED bulb for me which would be a nice cyan color. Not as offensive as a blue-white LED bulb, but still enough blue to have that nice accented look I'm after.
