Re: License Plate Adapter for Coupe
i don't think it's pricey at all.. it was one of the first things i got for my coupe.. it is sturdy and definitely a life saver against any fix-it tickets, especially in california.. i kno lots of ppl personally and on the board who uses it and there's not one complaint about them.. definitely worth it IMO..

I agree, at first I was like "what, how much!!" but after my ticket I had to get it. I should have gotten it before my ticket, it's built to hold up in all climates and conditions. Don't think about the price too much just get it... you'll be happy you did.

Re: License Plate Adapter for Coupe
what about the fact that someone parallel parking hits your plate in.
I emailed striclyz and they say they are small company, so they dont do crash tests. A light bump straight into the plate.... WHAT COULD HAPPEN?

Re: License Plate Adapter for Coupe
Hi:
I thought it was a bit pricey too. So, I used the license plate mount that came with the car and several strips cut from a 2 foot piece of one inch wide aluminum (Home Depot) to fashion my own mount. I used 2 screws facing inward and secured them with wing nuts. This way it is easy to remove with a screw driver in case you need to.
Attach one strip across the back of the license plate mount, full length. (Use a Dremel tool to cut a small slice from the center of the license plate holder back so that the one inch wide aluminum will fit flat against the back of the license plate holder.) Secure it to the license plate holder at each side using very short recessed flat head screws and nuts.
Then slide one of the strips ( about 4 to 5 inches in length) behind the front bumper via the tow hook opening. Be careful to keep a hold on it to determine the length you need.
Cut the length of 1 inch aluminum that you need ( 4 to 5 inches) and lay that on top of the piece of aluminum that you are mounting to your license plate holder. Drill two holes, horizontally parallel to one another, about 1 inch apart. The holes should be large enough to let two 1 and 1/2 inch screws pass through. (You can also tap these for a more secure fit.) Put the shorter piece of aluminum back behind the front bumper and hold it there until you have one of the screws secured with a wing nut from behind.
With a little ingenuity you can secure the front license plate without drilling any holes into the front bumper. Also, you don't risk having your tow hook damaged in a fender bender. Mine has held tight for about 2,000 mi thus far.

Re: License Plate Adapter for Coupe
I've had mine installed for nearly 4 months and its held up great. I check it every gas fill-up to see if its getting loose.
I've never had to tighten it since installation.
Why kluge together a home made fix on a $35k car?
The price is well worth it in my book.
Life is too short...get out and live it!

Re: License Plate Adapter for Coupe
The car looks so much better without a front license plate. Just like Corvette, Porsche, etc.... these cars should not have one... and yes, I live in California, and yes they are a pain in the ***.
However, if you do not want a front license plate, just keep it between your front seat and the front door and whenever you see a cop, just place it on top of the dash. Cop can't give you a ticket for that. If he does, go to court and state that the license plate is clearly visible from the front dash.
I have talked to many people about this and they have agreed. Even the dealership salesman told me that... Has worked for me... thus far!

I agree, I keep my adapter in the trunk, If I get pulled over again I'll just point out that its in the trunk because I *lost* a small screw that holds the thing together, and am waiting for a replacemnet.

Re: License Plate Adapter for Coupe
My car came drilled with the stupid front license plate mount =/
I want to re-fiberglass the holes and then maybe opt for the Strictly Z adapter since Cops are cautious about the front plate here in CA.
