Exclamation Question about gas comsuption and rear wheel drive on the G35C

Hi everyone!

I am new in this forum, I am planning to get a 2007 pearl white G35 coupe ( yes I am a girl... hehehe) or the IS 250 AWD in the next 2 weeks...I love the G a lot, but the gas comsuption and the rear wheel drive are holding me back.

I live in montreal canada, gas price is going crazy and winter is even crazier.. I know it is not a good idea to get the G in those situations... but my love for the G is too deep!

I need insights from you G35coupe proud owners:

1-a full tank of gas, how many KM/Miles you guys can go city/hwy?

2-the dealer said that with a good set of winter tires, I shouldnt have problems in the winter with the rear wheel drive.. but not sure if I should trust him or not. I never had experience with rear wheel drive before, only with AWD and front wheel.. already with front wheel and winter tires it is hard during winter.. I am pretty worried about my future G now, the image of it during winter looks freaky!!

thanks a lot!

Well, I just got my 6 speed G and I'm seeing that I'm averaging 18 miles on a tank (Hopefully once I'm further in on breaking in the engine the mpg will improve). I average at 322 miles for 17 gallons of gas with 3 gallons to spare.

The winter part I have no experience with but I would assume that the TCS and VDC would help assist you in driving in the snow.

I have to fill mine every four to five days. I drive it about 60 miles daily, but i drive it spirited through the country roads .

Ya I only get about 15 mpg...but I like to drive it like I stole it ...as for the winter. Once you get used to it--it shouldn't be that bad. Just be careful

G35>IS 250

the one ill get will be 5AT, the dealer said no more pearl white left in canada for 6MT.. so I guess the gas consumption should be higher on the 5AT than the 6MT...

Do you do a lot of hwy or it pretty much even?

I do mix driving around town. I typically shift at 3,000 RPMs. The consumption should not be that have much of a difference between the two. Pearl White will be a nice color choice. As long as you're easy on the gas you should be fine.

I know the IS250 next to the G is like nothing in terms of power..

I test drove both cars today back to back.. the G 1st and then the IS.. oh man.. I felt like I was driving an old man car when i was in the IS....i didnt felt any thrill.. speeding was like lame.. i mean, I found it boring!

I know I am comparing orange and apple here in terms of power.. but their price here are almost the same, 51K VS 52K +tx but the lexus cost about 120$/month more for the car payments tho because of the residual value.

Thats why I am tryng to see if the RWD is not as bad as I think and the fuel consumption wouldnt make "too" much of a diff since the IS is more $ for the monthly payments

But I have to admit the IS is more luxury comfort compared to the G, those ventilated seats with AC were sweet.. rain sensing wipers... 13 speakers pioneer sound system....

Aren't the IS250 RWD? The Lexus will be a bit more boring to drive but the interior is quite nice and pleasant.

I would say if you want something more fun you should go for the G but if you like to coast from place to place you should go for the IS. The G can save you a few grand since you can get a nicely equipped one at a good deal now beacuse the 08 model is coming out.

in my experience the g sucks in snow, granted, I'm running Toyo T1R Tires which are by no means meant for snow. (I took it up to the mountains outside Phoenix last year to go snowboarding and we didn't think we'd get off the mountain!!!) With good winter tires it might be a different story.

Gas mileage does vary based on how you drive it. I've averaged about 22 miles per gallon, being VERY conscious. However, usually I'm somewhere around 17-19 because I love the sound the exhaust makes up around 6k rpms.

I'm not buying that story about no IP 6MT's left in Canada either. It's a big country. I did a quick search on the Infiniti website in the Toronto area and these guys have your car. Go get it before someone else picks it up.

Dixie Infiniti
5500 Dixie Road
Mississauga, ON L4W 4N3
Tel: (905) 238-5500
Fax: (905) 206-1810

On a side note, I can't believe how much these things are in Canada, it almost seems like it would be cheaper to pick it up in the US and pay the duty on it, especially with how strong the Canadian Dollar is these days. The msrp on the car you're looking at is $52,550(CAD) which is about 50k in US dollars. If you bought the same car in the US, COMPLETELY LOADED (Premium, Areo, Nav, Active Steer) it only comes to about $41k or about $43k Canadian. Check out this link, http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=779165

I think in the end you'll end up saving about $5-7k.

Hope this helps.

The fuel economy on the G35 isn't really that bad, but it's by no means good either. I tend to drive my car pretty light for the most part, but I do drive hard occasionally when it's safe to do so. I average between 22 and 24 MPG combined with about 60 to 70% backroads driving. The G could do better on the highway with fuel economy. It only gets like 23 or 24 MPG when you cruise at about 70-75 MPH, and I seem to get better milleage driving down backroads where you can just loaf along in a high gear at a low speed and pull like 30 MPG while cruising(which balances out the lower highway economy). Of course, if you're doing all stop and go traffic, expect to get like 16 MPG.

As far as RWD in the snow in Canada, you should get a second car that is preferably a 4x4 or at least FWD for winters. RWD is fun to drive in snow/ice and stuff, but you will have a damn hard time getting traction when going up a hill and the OEM tires absolutely will not even come close to cutting it when you need to drive in nasty stuff. Seriously, don't even try to drive on the OEM tires in snow/ice... you'll put yourself at serious risk.
