Me vs GS400!!!!!!

What a race. These cars got some umphh to it. Well was going home late night and i didnt expect a luxury car to race me. So i was just driving and these guys roll up to me and starts messing me with like jumping back and forth with the car. So we were crusing and i was heading for a red light and was getting ready to race and thought the red light wanna be there for long because i was in 2nd gear getting ready to shift to 1st. All the sudden the light turned green and i was not expecting that at all.
The gs400 guns it and is ahead of me by a car. I stepped on it and i was in 2nd starting around 5mph. I caught up with the car by the middle of 3rd and i ended up beating the car by the end of forth.
We raced one more time but since the weather was 51 degrees outside my tires were cold so when i launched i didnt have traction for jack so i spun. Once i go traction and shifted to 2nd i also broke traction once again and spun a little bit. By the middle of 3rd or begging of 4th gear (i forget because i was more mad that the fact that i spun so much) i was able to beat him again =)
So in the end, i would never guessed a gs400 got that much power. He also did have intake and exhuast. My car is stock w/z tube if you guys even consider that a mod

Re: Me vs GS400!!!!!!

Hey Xenon,

I was messing around today with my coupe in the 47 degree weather here in the Bay Area and also had the same issue with the spinning tires. That sucks... Guess you just have to have the RPMs slightly lower as not to keep the continous spin as you hit the gas...

I just ordered the JWT Pop Charger and Z-Tube combo and should receive it by the end of the week. Can't wait to install it this weekend and play with my car then. Hopefully it is a little warmer out... Nice Race BTW.... GS400 look nice, but not as nice as the G IMO....

Here's to alcohol : The cause of ... and solution to all of life's problems.

I've always thought of the GS400 as a monster, but I guess our G isn't too shabby either huh?

Re: Me vs GS400!!!!!!

I have seen published figures of 5.6 - 5.8 for 0-60 times on a GS400, the 430 has drive by wire throttle, and it is tuned to meet ULEV standards, so it is pretty much known to have slightly softer performance numbers!

I drive a 98 GS400, and I would like to have a go with a G35C, just to see, as both cars are very stout performers!

Have Both

I have both a modded GS4 & G35 so I can assure ya'll that the G is quicker 0-60 but the GS gains at top end. My best GS time was 5.2 0-60 & a quartermile of 13.79 @ 102.3 mph. My GS had everything short of F/I ( intake, exhaust, chip, T/C & a 3.76 geared LSD ) when I ran those times. Last week I went to the local strip for some unofficial shakedown runs ( the track was getting ready for racing season but I know the track manager so he let me play! ). In pure street trim my best 0-60 time in the G was a 4.89 with several in the 5.00-5.08 range. I was only able to make 2 full passes as they were working on the track but I laid down a 13.56 @ 103.6 mph and a 13.61 @ 103.3 mph. All the track electronics weren't working so I don't have 60' or reaction times but you can see where the Lexus V-8 was pulling pretty good thru the traps. The GS was running 5.9's when it was stock - the T/C was the biggest improvement followed by the gears, IMHO. In handling, there's NO comparison!! Even with the GS lowered on Eibachs + sways the G35 handles like a go kart compared to the heavier Lexi. Comfort is another matter as the GS excells in long distance cruising. Just 2 different kinds of sports sedans/coupes.

Re: Have Both

can't speak to gs430 having softer numbers but my only substantial mod to my gs400 was a torque converter mod. it helped. and this is a 3750 lb. car vs. the gcoupe6mt at about 3450. handling in curves would never equal the gcoupe, but for a big car it handled very well and was very predictable. straight line, it would be very close to the gcoupe with over 300 torque and just a bit over 300 hp. that V8 does pull!

comfort-wise there's no comparison especially on long hauls as MG said. then again, there's no comparison on price either the gs400 even in today's '98 dollars being about a full $10K more than the gcoupe6mt.

Re: Have Both

here u are DGOT20s.
i've always known not to mess with the GS.
i race LexAristo's first gen. GS300 with my SC300, and i beat him at a red light, but he was turning in to this parking lot so i guess he wanted to slow down.
once i get used to the stick on the G35, i'll try to run a GS =)
