Contemplating the big move

Hey Guys:

I'm new to this forum. I've got a 2005 Acura TL and am seriously considering either an '07 G35 or '08 G37.

I've been reading the articles in Motor Trend, Car and Driver, and Automobile. I've also tried to keep up with some of the comments in the forum here.

From what I can gleen from the articles, there isn't a whole lot of performance difference between the '07 and '08 G's. The real difference is refinement. That being said, I must admit that I like the look of the G35 exterior better, although I have yet to see the G37 in person. The pics of the G37's interior look much better though. One of the reasons I purchased a TL was because of the G35's interior was a bit of a turnoff (no offense intended).

I've done some internet shopping for an '07 and am curious to see what kind of deals will be available on the '07's especially after the '08's come out.

It looks like one of the problems with the G35 is the 6MT. I've read about issues with 5th and 6th gear. Is that still a problem for the '07's?

I'd really like to get a 6MT, along with Nav, and the Premium package. I believe the Sport package is part of the 6MT package.

I guess the biggest question to ask current owners is - what do you prefer, your current G35 or are you ready to trade it in for a more refined G37?

Any input you can give will be appreciated.

Thanks,

gurney

There are a lot of questions in there. I prefer keeping the g35 and adding a G37 to the stable. Problem solved

the 6MT has mt, 19's, sport front bumper, stiff sport tuned suspension, and dual mass flywheel.

Aero (sport?) has rear spoiler and air ddiffusers

Whats wrong with your TL? Its a nice car. Well...as for G35 or G37. I don't have any problem with my G35 and it is 6MT and its much better looking car. I probably won't trade in for a G37, I just don't like the look of it . My next car will be a M3 anyway so....

There's nothing wrong with my '05 TL, other than it is kind of bland. It was purchased a week after Hurricane Katrina as a replacement for an '01 CL Type-S. I looked at the G35 coupes then, but inventory was limited, and I didn't like the interior. Plus the TL was about $3K cheaper.

I prefer a coupe to a 4-door. The car is used almost exclusively on a 80 mile round trip commute. I've got an '07 MDX for hauling and want something that is sportier.

In the past I have owed a VW Scirocco, a Supra, and two RX-7's. My son is almost driving age, so I may give him the TL to drive; or I may trade it in - not sure yet.

I'm just trying to get a feel for what current G35 owners think of their cars, and what they don't like about them. From reaing some other threads, it sounds like rattles, soft paint, and the 6mt have been some problem areas.

Thanks for the feedback.

Not that big a move.....!

Wait for the G37.....checkout all the options and watch out for the mod bug.
Once bitten you can never stop.....it's just terrible and costly.......haha

I've had my 06' 6mt coupe for about a year now and love it. I haven't noticed any probs with the gearing or oil consumption (some people have experienced these probs with the revup engines 05'-07'). The gearing is a little notchy and hasn't been as easy to shift smoothly as my previous car (integra), but none the less I love this ride. The only 2 things that bug me are the soft paint and the shoulder harness of the seatbelt. It tends to ride up on the neck. Other than that I think it's a great car with classic lines and sexy styling and still like it more than the G37.

I have a 05 Coupe 6mt about 35K I personally love my car despite some of the problems that I had with it. It's a great car and I really would buy the car again if I had the opportunity to go back and decide. I hope that helps.

It sounds like you live in a relatively well to do area, so I'm guessing there's probably a $1-2K markup on the G35. MSRP for a bone-stock 07 6MT is $34,050, with the premium package ($2,850), nav ($1,800.00), and markup, you're probably looking at a sticker price of roughly $40K to $41K.

You may be able to get a deal on an 07 around mid-September if the G37s are flying off the lots and the G35s are sitting there, dealers are going to get desperate and lower prices on the 07s. Just a guess off the top of my head, you could probably save a couple grand.

But you're ultimate opportunity is the limited winter engagement event, which should start in mid-November. If (and it's a big if), 07 G35s are still in stock, you're going to have a typical $5K reduction in price for the sale, plus the desperation factor (they'll really be itching to get rid of them by then). You could save A LOT here, maybe $7K.

I'd watch your local dealer's inventories (can do it online) starting when the G37 comes out in August, through November. When you start to see the G35 inventories declining, that's the time to strike.

But in the end, you're gonna have to weigh the costs and benefits yourself (i.e. a G35 with premium and nav for 35K or a G37 with the same options for 41K, or whatever they list).

g35 by far the new g37 is not as nice looking it has no lines, and the current model looks so much nicer,, imho.

get the current model, the design is timeless, and, they cant do anything to the car except ruin the look, which they have dont in my opinion, with the new g37

Gurney,

I went through the same dilemma as you. I had a 05 Acura TL then felt like it was too plain-jane (although the interior was excellent) and provided no sportyness. So I traded it in on a 05 WRX STi. Which happens to be the complete opposite end of the car spectrum. The STi lasted for about 8 months after the fun factor wore off. Then came the G35 6MT. Lets just say that I should have gone the "G" route sooner. It’s the perfect blend of luxury and sportyness.

I went from a TL Type S to a G35 coupe and I like it much much better. Between the G37 and G35..I would go with the G35.

What kind of mileage do you get with the TL. That is my biggest problem with the G35. I have yet to get over 18 mpg average. I have a 112 mile round trip each day so luckily I have a Sentra with 35 mpg for the daily drive
