Accelerator stuck to floor!

Accelerator stuck to floor!
Yesterday, on a snowy Canadian highway, I moved my 6MT Coupe into the passing lane to overtake a slower car, pressed the accelerator to the floor ... and IT STAYED THERE when I lifted my foot!
I immediately dumped the clutch, switched off the ignition (one position so the steering column would not lock) and glanced at the tachometer (redlined, of course).
Being careful to stay within my lane, I reached down to the accelerator and found that the aftermarket winter floor mat had slid forward and curled to keep the accelerator fully down. I cleared the problem, re-started the engine and continued my trip. Close call, I was lucky.
Today, I anchored my winter floor mat so it can no longer slide forward and repeat the incident. And so, these words to the wise ... fix yer mats!
6MT ~ Brilliant Silver ~ RejeX thin-film polymer coat
Clear corners & bra ~ Aluminum pedals ~ Tint 20%

Re: Accelerator stuck to floor!
Sounds like another reason to go with Nissan/Infiniti supplied mats instead of 3rd party aftermarket. Although maybe you could make your own hole and reinforce it somehow. Scary story!

nate ... I'm with you on that point of "Infiniti supplied mats instead of 3rd party aftermarket". However, Canadian dealers are not as strong on the accessories as, say, Grubbs. If I had it to do over again, I'd pay $75 to Grubbs plus shipping and customs duty, that's over $100, then convert to Cdn $, that's about $150. Instead, I bought some pant-saver type clear plastic mats at Canadian Tire for $15 each and drilled a 11/32" hole to go over the black plastic anchor peg on the floor. I'll watch closely for any shift in the mat now -- if so, I'm going straight to Grubbs for the "real thing"!

Thanks for the heads-up on the mats. I too have the aftermarket mats similar to the ones you have from CTC.
I'll make the necessary mods and watch the mats from now on. If they still cause issues, I'll invest in the Infiniti mats.
