MT or AT?!?!?!?!?! Help!

I'm so torn on which I want to get.

I use to drive a MR2 with MT and I loved it. I felt like i hate total control of my car. But when i wanted to cruise and have my music up shifting and clutching got a little annoying. I live in NY, traffic here is prolly one of the worst in the U.S.

I drive a Honda accord 01 with AT now. I don't have power at all. Freakin sucks. But I get to drop it to D and just press the gas. Got my music up tints half way down...just chillin.

DAMN....give me your opinion guys. Something like:

How is AT and MT on the G35 Coupes?

What you guys/girls think is more worth it?

Why you guys/girls perfer one over the other?

I have a 6mt and even thought I drive it with no regrets sometimes I just wish it was an auto because I live in Sacramento CA and frequently drive to San Fransico and both places or nortorious for heavy traffic. Plus depending on the year (I think it's 06 and up) the auto Tranny gets a little more smarter doesn't it (ie rev matches when you down shift in tip-tronic mode). I dunno you have to make up your own mind on this one so that you can't blame anybody later. Consider all the factors like the heavy traffic in your area, are you really going to race this car around, and keep in mind that the auto and 6mt's are neck and neck with each other in terms of speed.

with the G you get the luxury of both...D and MM mode. Although MM is not quite the same as a 6MT, it is a compromise that I was happy with. Go test drive a 5AT G and check out the MM mode. You might be pleasantly surprised

AT is traffic and cruis'n friendly and no clutch, etc...and MT seems to be more trouble prone or perhaps just driven harder more often...

im more towards the old side now so racing isn't gonna be big to me. The only time I go back to my racing habits is when some jerk dosen't let me and becomes and dick about it or some ******* messes w/ me on the road. But i'm not going out lookin for races..i'm gonna have my tints , rims , system..and cruise.

- Search... most of this threads end up in the drain

- L.A has the worst traffic in the nation in regards to freeways & overall vehicle population; yet I don't regret 6MT a bit.

- Don't let others decide what you want. Go test drive them both and decide for yourself.

Goodluck!

Remember to set your priorities, and then choose.

i live in LA, CA and have an 06 5AT and must say i absolutely love it. The car delivers power from gears one through four without a hesitation. But...i repeat but...the only thing i wish i had was the 6th extra gear for gas consumption reasons. my 5AT while shifting at 3,000RPM on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gets about 9mpg which is really ****ty.

if your looking for some reasons on why i got the AT over MT here they are:

1. traffic is absolutely horrible on my daily commute so its nice to have the opportunity to switch between MM and automatic when traffic dies down or gets more congested.

2. When on the cell phone or bluetooth sometimes its a little hard to shift with a 6mt and keep your mind on the road at the same time. AT allows you to easily pop the car into "D" and focus on the road and your phone call without worrying about over revving or shifting the car out of neutral.

3. the AT is nearly neck to neck with the 6mt (more so from a dig than from a roll)

4. The AT is not as sluggish as other auto transmissions in cars such as lexus and so forth.

5. if you do get a AT i highly suggest you get a 10-wire grounding kit so your up and downshifts will have no delays.

If you might go with a supercharger or turbo (or two) choose the MT. The auto tranny is weak.

No regrets getting AT. Like you stated, put it in 'D' and press on the gas. I'll throw it in 'MM' every so often just to down shift in traffic or to hear the exhaust going through a tunnel but it's definitely not the same as MT. But my biggest gripe about MT is that when I've been drinking, I wouldn't trust anybody driving unless it was AT.

MT vs AT.........?

If it matters your brakes will last longer with a MT. I put 118K miles on my
last car before replacing the OEM pads. That won't happen today with the
junk pads Nissan puts on our cars. Shifting the MT is fun until you get into
stop and go traffic for hours.....but it's still fun. I grew up with MT and never
had to replace a clutch, only one throw out bearing!
