Are the 2004's faster?

Just finished reading the new Motor Trend magazine. They tested an '04 350Z and got a 13.7 out of it. Is it an exceptionally strong car, or are the '04 models putting out a bit more power than the '03 models?

Maybe the new emissions changes actually free up a few HP....

I believe it is the same car... people on my350z were pulling numbers like that too on good days with good launch, same way some g's were pulling high 13.8 and 9's stock...

if anything with the new 2004's they would be slower after jan 2004 because they are making the emessions better on it.

Well, obviously they are not slower. The '04 model 350Z was the fastest 350Z Motor Trend has ever tested.

Besides, the emissions changes might actually "free up" a few horsepower.

Better emissions doesn't always mean less performance. In some cases, the engine might actually make MORE horsepower.

Yeah, but people on message forums like this one tend to run at maximum potential at the track to get their best numbers. Magazines like Motor Trend do not do things like powershift and run as light weight as possible (low gas level etc...). Instead, they put test equipment in the car, fill the gas tank, and shift with lift-throttle type shifting.

In the hands of an experienced bracket racer, that very same 350Z would probably run 13.50's or so..... and that's damn fast for a stock 350Z.

Actually, the emissions changes started in cars built in October 2003, not January 2004.

I'd imagine its not a difference that you'd notice...even if there was one.

The word on the street is that the 04 will be a coupe of tenths slower to 60 under like conditions of the 03. Bareley noticeable.

Word on the street? Now that's funny....

Where did you hear that word? And what is it based upon?

From the way it looks now, the '04 350Z is every bit as fast (if not faster) than the '03 Z.
