Brand New G, Burning Smell

Just got my G yesterday. It's the first time in 8 years that I've had a new MT car. I notice a slight burning smell after I drive it. I'm pretty solid with the MT so I don't think I'm grinding the clutch. Is the burning natural on a brand new car as it breaks in? The car only had 12 miles on it when I picked it up.

You'll find that new imports will have a burning smell for a little while. They coat the undersides/workings of the cars for transport, and the material burns off over the first few hundred miles. My G and FX both did this, and this is the explanation I received...

Re: Brand New G, Burning Smell

I found that I can get the clutch burning smell easier, though every mile makes it more resistant, also, with all this snow I am making the differential pretty hot and that is producing a smell also. Both seem normal to me as my roomate's FX is exhibiting the same smell (well, the differential one anyway), and he actually had steam coming off it a few days ago.

Anyway, I also had this same smell when I replaced my clutch in my maxima. I assumed it to be just the smell of new parts burning off whatever they are coated in. It went away after 1k miles or so.

Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once.

thanks for bringing this up! i've got 300 miles, and the same smell. dealer couldn't explain and suggested i bring it in just in case. but it's going away day by day, so i may just wait until i go in to get my plates and new, smaller SAT antenna installed.

My G did the same thing, but it only lasted for about a day or two...and hasn't smelled like anything ever since, except for the 'new car scent'

Mine lasted for about a month. The saleman warned us about it, but it still freaked out my wife. She was sure the car was going to catch fire or something & burn down our garage. The salesman also suggested that we should run the climate control on recirc for awhile to prevent the smell from getting inside the car. I took his advice & didn't have a problem with the smell getting inside.

Re: Brand New G, Burning Smell

I have a '04 Auto coupe. Bought it last November. Now have 2800 miles on it and I still get that burning smell maybe once or twice a week. It doesnt last long. The smell disappears after a minute or two. At first I thought maybe it was my paranoia since I am extremely over protective of my car. Last night though my girlfriend told me she smelled it and I smelled it too. So now I am here trying to gain info.

Everyone here says it only lasts the first few hundred miles. I have 2800 miles on my car and I am still getting a faint burning smell every now and then. Its freakin me out and scaring my girlfriend. Pls help....
