homelink buttons...

? # 1 are the homelink buttons supposed to light up when our headlights are on (not the power button for the rear view mirror dimmer)?

? # 2 are your homelink buttons wearing out? on the second one (i use the most) the house icon now looks like it was his by a hurricane!

#1- Nope

#2- Nope. I use the first one all the time, and it's fine. Maybe your dirty little fingers are leaving residue on em I actually clean the interior of my car (plastic surfaces) with Goo Gone, then use CG to protect em... so, so far there's no wear.

Re: homelink buttons...

I have a question... Do you have to have a homelink garage setup to use the feature on your car? I have a regular garage remote that I would like to try and program to open the garage.

It works with pretty much any garage door opener out there.

but sometinmes mine works and then doesn't and then works again....wifes is the same in her car. I think it has to do with the rolling code in the opener...Pingo

Re: homelink buttons...

Mines dont light up, but they work awesome and they seem to work from farther than the regular remote. I programmed all three buttons for the garage so I just press which ever one.

Pingo -

There is a different process to set up your Homelink for garage door openers with a rolling code. See your manual. Its easy to do.

Re: homelink buttons...

Antrock, those look like scratches and there are a couple of tiny gouges in the plastic that don't look like normal, wear and tear. I would think that normal wear would look more like a smudge or something like that.

Do you hold your keys in your hand when you're pushing the buttons? Maybe they're accidently scratching them? Just a thought...

Also, how many miles do you have on your car? That would give us a general indication of the useage your car has been subjected to and an idea of the numbers of times you've been in and out of your garage...

Re: homelink buttons...

i have had the car since november 2002, i have 18k miles on it. no i do not have keys in my hand while using the homelink i use the middle button everyday to open the gate in my community. i am just supprised that it has worn and looks like that, on my old ford, the buttons that have a white backround with black around it lit up when the lights were on that is why i asked if they were supposed to light up. hmm i wonder if that worn button is a warranty thing!

Re: homelink buttons...

Wow... do you work somewhere that gets grit on your hands? I can't think of why it'd be doing that...

Re: homelink buttons...

I would take it back in and have them replace the part. I wish they were backlit. My volvo's was and it made it easier to find the buttons.
