Hit by a semi...

...truck's blown-out tire tread on the interstate. Anybody else ever have this happen? Sorry for the teaser title and lack of pictures.

Coming home from work on friday a gigantic, heavy, steel-lined tread comes flying over the car in front of me and lands viciously on my hood and front bumper at 65 mph.
I immediately drop gear and get ahead to see if there is a semi anywhere in front of me but i can't spot one.

So i check the damage; big dent in the exact center of the hood and some horrid, paired, erratic, to-the-metal scratches on the hood and bumper. Got it into a body shop this morning and its gonna cost about $700 to get the bumper and hood refinished and repainted.

The plus side, it didn't hit my windsheild and have a potential to produce bodily harm and now i can go get a clear bra so that the ridiculously soft paint can have some protection and maybe not look like a micro mine field.

Thanks for stopping by and i hope you all enjoyed the smilies that helped visually narrate my story.

Jeez that sucks... I always worry about that when I drive on the highway...

A month ago a big sack of dirt/dust/cement mix or something was in the middle of the road but I couldn't see it until it was too late because there was an SUV in front of me and cars on either side so I had to hit it... *POOF* dirt dust all over my newly washed G... Haha

But yeah, pics.

[rant] Driving behind SUVs is the worst. You never know what the traffic ahead of them is like, you don't know the road conditions ahead, 99.9% of the time they're arrogant drivers who think they own the road (only we g's own the road ), and 90% of the time it is a single female who is talking on her cell phone and not paying attention to her speed or the cars in front or where she is on the road. [/rant]

And i agree pgh, could've been a lot worse.

Heh... I came in here thinking I could relate, but the title is a little misleading I got into an accident with a semi too earlier this year which obviously totaled my G. Hit it at approx 50-60mph didn't do too much damage to the semi. One cool thing I got out of it was there was an Infiniti logo stamped into my hand.. internal bleeding (basically it was red in the back of my hand kind of where my thumb + pointing finger is but a very clear Infiniti logo in unaffected skin was in it if that makes sense) I think it was from the logo on the steering wheel since it was half-popped out because of the airbag. Made one hell of a good storypiece. Faded out after a couple weeks.

i hate that crap, i was driving home one day myself and a some truck ran over a big sheet of aluminum siding and that thing went air born i jerked the car to avoid it, lucky the wind pushed the siding away from me, but that was just scary seeing that big a$$ sheet in the air

yeah this just happend to me 4 days ago. this car flipped up a semi truck tire. it hit the front of my car. the lip, bumper headlight and fender(right side). luckily i have a clear bra so nothing happend to the majority of the paint;how ever i have some spider webs on my paint now and the rubber will not go away on the clear bra. i think i will use sopme type of scratch remover or degreaser.

i just got out on the interstate and started screaming. then tried to checked the damage but since it was night time couldn't see all that well. it just hurt me to see it . every time i look at it, it seems to get worse

EuG35... **** man, hitting a semi at 60?! I'm glad to hear you're still alive.

KT, thanks! And yeah, getting hit by a semiauto pistol would be a whooole different post

I can only imagine how bad i would've soiled myself if i would have seen a giant sheet of aluminum flying at my pretty car cochinogato, congrats on the evasion!

Hey Sranang Mang, would you happen to have pictures of your post-hit clear bra? Since i'm getting one put on in the light of all this refinishing/painting i'm wondering how it would look after a hit like we took; which is ironic in and of itself.
